Right

I have a VK commodore with all the VL loom and running gear e.t.c
The problem I have is it starts and runs @ 9 volts on idle, disconnect the battery and it dies,
Once it is idling I have to rev it up to over 3200 rpm and it starts charging at 13.8volts, disconnect the battery and its fine

I have replaced every relay
replaced the alternator
No codes on the ecu

Im stumped as hell please help

Does the VL have an onboard regulator?

Battery not at fault.... Battery not healthy, but not at fault.

Firstly, on a VL I'd expect a higher charge rate of at least 14v with no load. Secondly, failing to charge on startup idle is usually indicative of a failed regulator or failed exciter circuit (wiring into the regulator). Since the alternator has been replaced there is something else going on.

failed indicator charge light, this can -depending on the Alternator -be needed as part of the exciter circuit

Thats a really valid point!

To the OP, does the battery light come on with the ignition?

also are you checking the voltage at the battery or at the back of the alternator. you need to check it at the back of the alt this will tell you if you have an issue in the wiring between the alt and batt or if you have an issue elsewhere.

It's one of those usual... take the info and run threads.

We don't need to be thanked right?
