Hey all.
I have a 98 VT and I got a mate to install footwell LESs for me. For power he tapped into the head unit power in the head unit loom so they come on when the car does. Ever since then my cluster climate control or shifter nothing on the dash lights up. I've replaced fuses and all what could be the problem?

That shouldn't cause any problems doing it that way.

May be he wired it to the illumination wire instead. Best to check where it is actually wire to.
May be it was wired while there was voltage there and popped the globes.

Have a look and tell us which one (colour) it's wired to.

my mate who done the LEDs is on his way over. He thinks maybe he spliced the ground too thin so the cluster thinks there's no power

Checked the wire and ground all seems to be good. I think all the globes are popped though. May just pop down to Holden

just on this OP, are you sure you want these things on with ignition?

You'd be better off tapping into the same circuit as the interior light.

they have a switch and settings on them so they dont have to come on when the ignition does I can set it all :) , its better like this as i dont have to have the interior light on when i want the footwells on

you know sometimes it's easier hearing these sorts of things from a total stranger... Your friend, doesn't know what the #### he is doing. Find an auto electrician asap.

If you wanted them to come on when the car does, I would have connected them to a different power source.
Not to something where the wrong wire could easily be mistaken, or to a sensitive device like a H/U.

For example....At the back of the cigarette lighter/accessory outlet.
There are even hot connections in the fuse box under the steering wheel, such as un used relay terminals.

By the way....A separate fuse for your lights wouldn't go astray either.

the lights have a fuse on them that sit at the back of the headunit with the loom, he did have to tap into the ground aswell. maybe that caused some issues? i think all the globes may be done too. i took out the led i had in my shifter to replace one that died in my number plate lights and it didnt work, tried another and that worked. im just going to go to holden today and then if they cant help me to an auto electrician
