Hey All.
I've been offered a new set Of Top Gun Spark Plug Leads for nix.

First off.....They are for the VN to VP 5 litre engines.
Will these suit the VT 5 litre?

Secondly....What are Top Gun like? Are they any good?

Thanks Guys....
NK.

Forgive me its been a while for me since I seen a VT 5L, I know they had sequential but I'm pretty sure they didn't have individual coils - is the dizzy in the same spot near the firewall? If it is, the leads should be ok.

Top Gun are a decent brand you won't have much to worry about.

I had Top Gun 10mm leads come with my boost kit, they're high quality ****.

Best I can tell from Google the VT 5L dizzy is in the same place as the earlier 5L, so they should fit.

Thanks Guys.

The VT 5L does have the distributor at the back like the older ones. Basically it's the same engine.
But if you say they should be ok, I wonder why they wouldn't label them
to fit up to the VT 5L.

Rang Holden and the guy there, said that from the mid production of the VP 5L engine, they changed the leads.
He was not entirely sure how or why.
But he also said, that if these leads I have, fit up to the 1993 model, that means they would be the newer type.

Now, the part number for the ones I have, are TG8028. The Part Number for the VT 5L are TG8028B.
The only difference he could see between the two parts, is that the VT leads come with a different boot that fits over the plug.

He also said, just fit 1 or 2 leads first and leave the other original ones on, to see if there is any change in the operation of the engine.

He is 99% sure that these leads will be fine as he can only see the spark plug boot being different.

Looking at the Top Gun catalogue the only difference between the TG8028 and B variety is the boots. The ones you have wont fit your heat shields back on. The B means you have to reuse and the BH comes with new shields.

Thanks mate.
Half the original leads were missing the heat shields any way.
The heat from the extractors didn't seem to effect them in any way.

Any hoo.....2 hours later and I just finished fitting the new ones. What a mongrel of a job.
So far so good.....
I'll see how they go.

Yeah.....I've heard conflicting opinions on them. But hey, I got them for nothing.
Anyway, they are on now and I'll be buggered if I'm going to take them off anytime soon lol.
They seem to be doing the job fine.
Not getting that miss i had before.

Put plugs in too.....Bosch Platinum Plus. Made a lot more of a difference to the engine,
over the old NGK ones.

This is why it was such a mongrel of a job to fit the leads.
See if you can spot the dizzy!!
