I recently changed the headlights on vz wagon and now the high beam light on the dash won't go off and the high beam lights won't work at all .

When you say you changed them, are the after market like Altezza Projector or original?

The high beam indicator is usually powered from part of the low beam circuit. You've gone from a dual filament H4 bulb providing low and high to a single beam. Makes it tricky. Look to see if there is any unconnected wire or earth in the headlights.

No unconnected wires all I can put it down to is the bulbs itself I think, relays all good surely I don't have to H4 bulbs from Holden

What type of globes are in your new lights?
And was it a "plug and play" set up.

As Tas said....going from H4, to say.....H1 globes could be tricky, unless the head light manufacturer
has allowed for this and has adapted the wiring plug to suit.

Who on earth would get their globes from Holden.
Believe me, there are plenty of cheaper options out there.

H9 High beam.

Was your old lights H4 or was it a h11 h9 setup.

Guessing it wasn't plug and play H4 to H9 H11.

Positive earth maybe??

Um, when you said you changed the head lights, did you change the whole assembly (which is what some here appear to be thinking)

or

Did you just put new globes in?
