97 VT 5 Litre.
Been trying to sort out a problem with my engine.
To cut to the chase, I've found that when I connect the timing light to the leads on the left bank,
there's no light. The right side is ok.
It does idle ok and I'm thinking it's a weak spark on that side, that's why the timing light doesn't flash.
The engine does jerk a bit under load, as if there's a slight miss.
And does find it hard to come off idle unless I gently apply the throttle.

I'm tending to lean towards the ignition module, as the 5 litre only has one coil.
Your thoughts would be appreciated.

I can't see how you would have a weak spark on one bank when the sparks all come from the same coil/module.

How does the timing light connect to the ignition lead? Is it one of those induction type ones that connects over the lead? If so, these are polarity sensitive, if it's fitted incorrectly it won't read the signal.

I'll take it the missing sparks are no longer missing?

No just to figure out why it's not very drivable.

Yup.....
Ok riddle me this.
Just out at the car.
With the timing light connected, The spark is very erratic under about 1200 rpm.
Above that, it's constant.
By the way, I tested on all leads.

This would probably explain why its having trouble coming off idle and that slight miss under load.
