Default Wiring an external Tacho and shift ligft to a VY Storm

    Hi All,

I was wondering if one of you could please give me a hand with a really annoying question...

I am trying to wire an external tacho and shift light into my VY Storm Ute and cannot locate the pulse wire. I have been told by a few different ppl that this wire is located on the left hand side engine bay up near the fire wall - brown wire... in the VX yes, but in the VY no!

If you have any info at all on which wire can be used for the pulse feed It would be much appreciated... I rang around a few Holden places and no one seems to know - or don't want to help...

    Thanks Heaps,

Dont worr about him...newyaz back to the question...how come you would want an extra tacho put onto the storm? shoudlnt the wire be the same one as the one going to the actual tacho? does the same thing right.

Don't encourage ricing eh? well that would count out 3/4's of the utes in Queensland...

Getting the Storm Super Charged and wanted a shift light... plus for those of us who like the ricey bling bling it looks kinda cool - my opinion anyways

I figured it out.. the VY has a new computer designed for the VZ apparently (So I was told)... for those of you who dare to rice up your holden the VY pulse wire on a v6 is in the loom directly in front of the coilpack, there are 3 brown wires, you want to tap into the solid brown one!

Checkout one of my other promo ricey utes - www.coastcars.net then click on the iCandy link!

    Cheers,

    Todd

i think tachos are fine....on non tacho cars....e.g my VG ute which did not have a tacho, so i put in a Lunar Series Monster with shift and i personally think they look awsome.....i think putting a tacho in a car that already has a tacho is kinda pointless... kinda like putting two steering wheels in.... but hey its not my car so it doesnt matter, but shift lights are availble indvidually through autometer

yea thats what i reckon too... why have 2 tachs? i reckon just a shift light would go alright in it. but as you said... its your car...so go ahead!

I don't recall asking for a public opinion, I was merely asking advice... Doesn't matter, I figured it out myself.

The original author of this thread already said where it is. Pay attention and read the whole thread.

    Hey Mate,

In case you missed it, it is the brown wire which is located in the wiring loom nder your coil pack. You will need to run a long wire from there thru your firewall and up into the dash.. It is a fairly accurate reading...

It goes quite nicely in my 6 - our 2 other team car 8's have em too for all you tacho haters...

also have a tacho. not a monster but functional. to the haters, each to their own i guess, many things people do to car i cringe at (like those altezza style tail lights on vr-vs commodores look terrible and have no function over the originals!)
just to make a point. my tacho lets me know when the box is about to shit itself again!
