Hi guys,
1st of all i'd just like to say what a great web site this is, i have recently purchased a VR Berlina 5L and have found this site very hepful.
Ok, since i have owned the berlina the fan has never worked on speeds 1 and 2 but on fan speed 3 it works fine, 1st i thought it may have been the switch but i then realised it was all run by the climate control. Now that it is comming into summer and i am going to start using the a/c i thought it was time to sort it out.
I have considered taking it to an auto electrician but thought i would check here to see if anyone has had the same problem or would know how to fix it.
Cheers

problem no one, is that yes the climate control is on the came circuit as the fan control, how ever you will actualy find that the fan control switch is actualy broken, personaly, i would not recomend taking it to a auto spark, we used to make all sort's of a killing out of people (suckers) with that problem, we would charge top dollar for a job that took a grand total of 30 min's, here is the sure way to fix the problem, replace the fan switch, it's a standard problem on a mojority of commodores, vl has it, vn has it, and the vp has it. for some reason (and im still trying to work out why) the little fan switch just dies, you loose 1 and 2 speed settings, but 3 and 4 keep going, and going, and going. replace the switch, and all will be well
cheers

Where is the switch located?
Garth,
how hard is it to replace this switch and are they expensive?
on Vr Berlina
I thought the fan control is in the electronic climate control unit itself
When mine played up, I got a 2nd hand one from the wreckers
(½the price of a newie) to replace the stuffed ECC unit
fixed my fan problem

Try looking in the how-to section. I did a full how-to on removing the stereo head unit, same job for the climate control unit......just don't remove the head unit.
For those with standard air with the same problem... fan 1 &/or 2 &/or 3 not working I also did a post on how-to remove the fan speed resistor as this is the most common problem with the standard systems.
To all commodore owners VN to VR check your heater tap is closing off. As I have had about 4 in this week alone. Make sure the vacuum switch for the heater tap is working....its next to your left foot as you drive...usualy black or white in colour and has two vacuum hoses connected to it.
Send me a post if its not and I'll let you know how to test and fix it.....
Regards Guy.
120 in a 100 zone.....Sorry officer....I thought you where trying to give my wife back!!!!
ur in luck mate i just fixed mine i found it was the big earth in the green main plug i closed the terminal a little and then 1 and 2 speeds worked
The climate control..Fan Speed resistor is located under the Black plastic cover under the Plenum.(The cowl panel infront of the windscreen). Its an alloy and plastic box with alloy spikes sticking out from it.Theres a small oblong cover that you have to remove to acess it..hope this helps.![]()
