there is a product called a memory minder that plugs into the lighter socket to keep the memory while changing the battery.
Alternativaly you could just put a socket end on a normal charger and use that. It would be ok to do if you are changing the battery but i wouldnt recommend charging the batt this way as the wireing wouldnt be designed to carry the amp load of charging a batt.

if you could let me know why you need to charge a second batt i could come up with what you need
if you want to charge a second battery to run a fridge etc while the car is off there are setups you can buy and install easily. they are designed to always leave full charge in your cranking battery and drain the secondary and then charge your secondary batt while the car is running.

Hi, the reason i want to do it this way(if possible)is, i have just sold my 4wd ,it had a dual battery set up which was usefull for running appliances when camping.I want to use a large capacity battery for the same reason when igo with the commy, but i dont want to set up a dual system for it as i might not be keaping it for to long, also i dont want to have to change over batteries all the time,i have one of those jump starter/power packs, the are not to bad but id rather have a large proper battery,i would just like to be able to charge it up with something simple like a 12v/lighter socket charger., thanks..........

that would never charge it efficiently enough, the only way for a dual battery setup is to be wired in to your existing alternator/battery with an isolator

a quick and easy fix that should work would be to run 2 heavy duty wires direct from the batt to your secondary batt. put a fuse near the primary batt which you could then use as a switch(pull fuse to turn off). it will work but its not the right way to go about it.

As i mentioned earlier , my jump starter/power pack can be charged from the cig/plug, i thought there might be a similar type of gadjet to recharge a spare car battery.
