Just wondering how I would vent the battery if it's in the back of my wagon.
Do I just have to make sure the box is sealed, and drill some holes through the floor to give it some air?

Do it the easy way like mine is mate, sealed battery in a battery box. **** easy.

I would but apparently sealed batteries cost a lot more. So I'd rather just drill a few holes if that's all that's required. I could even hook up one of those PC fans in the side of the battery box, and have a tube on the other side running to the floor to vent it out.
What are the sealed batteries normally worth?

Mine is an AC Delco, and was the most CCA that I could get to fit in the standard battery tray (it's around 580 CCA from memory). After some dollar crunching I think I paid around $120 for it.
You will have to look up the regs mate, it's a bit more involved then using a sealed box and drilling holes in the bottom.

Just remember, a sealed lead acid is a little misleading. A more appropiate name is a valve regulated.

Exploding batteries
Maintenance-Free (MF) batteries rely on valves fitted to each cell which vent hydrogen if overcharging of cell makes gas pressure build up.
Usually, however, the resulting oxygen and hydrogen accumulate and mix in the space above the electrolyte. They normally recombine to form water. The gases are normally vented as the pressure rises, resulting in a characteristic acid smell around the battery. If the valves fail however, the pressure builds up inside each cell. Valve failure is usually caused by blockage of the mechansm by dirt and debris ever present in an engine environment.
An internal explosion can occur if the mixture is ignited. A slight jolt can make a spark jump between the posts, and the gas explodes. The force is sufficient to burst the plastic casing or blow the top off the battery, and can injure anyone in the vicinity and spray acid and casing shrapnel to the immediate environment. As a warning, swelling in the cell walls of the battery will occur when the internal pressure rises. The deformation of the walls varies from cell to cell, and is greater at the ends where the walls are unsupported by other cells. It is surprising how powerful an explosion can be caused in the small air space above the electrolyte. When one cell explodes, it sets off a chain reaction in the rest. Such batteries should be isolated and discarded, taking great care using protective personal equipment (goggles, overalls, gloves etc) during the handling.
