Hi,
New to the forum and don't know a lot about Commodores.
I have just spent the day replacing the engine in a VS and have only just discovered that the engine loom on the new engine is different to the old engine loom, and wont connect to the ECU.
The OLD engine had a GM92052 loom, which connects to a ECU marked "3.8L AUTO PCM" that has a double pink socket, and a single blue socket.
The NEW engine has a GM92053 loom with two purple plugs and a blue plug, which do not fit into the ECU sockets. (Probably just as well!)
Can someone please explain the difference between these two looms , and also the ECU module that I need to work with this loom.
Thanks in Advance, Alan.
I was told that the NEW engine also came out of a VS.
the loom with purple connectors is a Police RFI harness, the only difference is the connectors so they fit in the RFI PCM with metallic plated connectors.
to make themfit you will need to cut or file off the keyways stopping them from fitting.
or just use your original harness. and by the way your part numbers are missing some numbers.
Rob
Rob,
Thanks for that.
I think I'll try the plug modification first.
Replacing the loom while the engine is in looks much harder.
Alan
Rob,
I have modified the connectors and have the car back together.
The Engine now cranks but does not start.
I have checked and I have spark, and if I prime the plenum it will run momentarily.
The fuel pump runs and I have pressure in the fuel rail.
I can't tell if the injectors are firing, (how can I measure this)?
Opps,
Found my mistake, I had missed the small connector near the ECU which connects to the main loom.
Plugged it in and the engine now runs.
Many thanks, Alan.
hay guys soz for rapping this thread
but i got a 95 VS auto and a mate gave me a ecu out of a vt/vx looking thing with the same block as mine but it has different connectors , the same as this guy above me i think ,
so would it hurt to file down the plastic and plug it in and try to kick it over ,i just dont want to blow up my car lol
it wont run at all on the VT/VX ecu

sad face why not
or i noticed that i can replace what i think is the eprom in my ecu not sure though
wouldnt mide knowing how to wipe it then reprogramme it myself to
the vt ecu does all sorts of other little tricky things and is also linked to its specific body control module so it will never run .yes memcals are reprogrammable theres a few threads on here about doing it

lots of things wrong here.
number one - vt ecu won't run in a vs properly ie. all features working - will need wiring mods etc.
number two - vt manual ecu won't support t5 speed sensor.
number three - vt ecu won't run without being linked to BCM, which needs to be VT, or security turned off in the tune.
im surprised no smoke escaped LOL
