GM 8192 Baud ALDL Interface???

Hi just need a little hint as to finishing my interface.

So on the connector end of car is it just pin 5+9 I need to connect to the max chip?
What do I do with the mode select though? as seen in pic...

How does the max232 chip get power? do I also have to connect pin 16 (12v) aswell as pin 5 and pin 9?

Power comes from the regulator. Power to the regulator is available to the ODB connector. There should be some instructions on making this that provides info on the mode select. Its been a while since I made this one up and cant remember off the top of my head sorry. Make sure you use the right capacitors for your chip too. If you purchase a max232 you will probably need to use different valued capacitors to the ones on the diagram - the instructions that came with the 232 should tell you.

Ok cheers. So what I understand is that power come from the 78L05 chip (5v) to the max232. Not coming from the Car, but from the a laptop/desktop computer through serial. And it's just 5 (ground) and 9 (baud) that I need to worry about, and mode select I don't have to worry about right???? And yeah I have the right capacitors...

ok, ive modded the diagram a bit. left side is what you hook to car, right side all those wires youve gotta hook to a 9 pin serial plug.

and remember to join all the gnd points(upside down pyramid looking things).
