VS hardwire GPS
hey, I have a VS and a Navman S30 navigation unit and i am sick of the wire coming out of it and taking up the one ciggerette plug that my car has , does anyone know how to hardwire the gps to the car so that it turns off when the cars off and so i dont have the annoying cable there everytime i use it? Thanks Tom

hard wire a external socket to the existing cigarette lighter wires, and hide it somewhere, plug navman charger into that and run wire to where you mount the navman

you cant do that, as the wire that plugs into the gps is 5v, and the converter is inside the cigarette plug. best you could do is solder wires directly to the plug terminals.

i dare you to cut the wires that plug straight into the navman and hook them to 12v, then plug it in!! cant wait to see the warranty form for that one.

smoke is much harder to put back in than it is to let out
also, the charger is 12/24, but look on the sticker on the navman, should say 5v somewhere from memory.

just buy a female cigarette socket and piggyback that off ur existing one n stuff it up under ur dash? atleast if you ever want to put ur gps in another car you wont have to buy another cord cause u hacked ur existing one to bits.

Why not just buy a female (Cord mounted) socket, and hard wire that socket into your ignition wires, and hide that in behind the dash.
then you dont resort to cutting wires (warranty in-tact) and its easy to change to another car... :-)
Edit: Just like was said above... (i really should read the posts properly... hahaha)
