getting an intermittant ticking sound from what seems to be the indicator switch under the dash. the indicator lights do not flash when this sound is heard, they work as normal when used.
seems to be occuring more often.
any clues!!
hmmmm I don't think it's your indicators. the ticking your hearing is a relay opening or closing. Yes, they sound like the indicator flasher can. This will be a difficult problem to locate as there are aseveral relays under your dash.
Look, in my honest opinion without having looked at the car, I would suggest rolling it in to an autoelec shop seeing what they can work out.
In theory each relay needs to be tested and I'm guessing your not that flash with auto electrics, which is fine. But, if you can answer these questions someone might know what is happening.
When does it occur? going over bumps or flat surfaces or sporadically
Does it only happen at night?
Does anything switch on when it happens?
Can you do anything to recreate the fault?
Awaiting your reply.
you could try pulling non essential relays out , one at a time and drive it, this will help eliminate some parts
If it is a fast clicking sound coming directly from the indicator relay and alters speed or stops when you slightly move the indicator stalk, then it is a build up of worn off metal shavings from your switch mechanism itself slightly shorting out inside the indicator switch.
If it is this you can remove the switch and blow it out with compressed air, or replace it.
does it happen while your driving only? could be your key ring tapping the dash?!?!?! lol
well at first I thought it could be the keys-used only ignition key, not the ring!
then thought it had something to do with the cruise control.
Now the ticking happens quite often and is not regular in timing or bumps night or day.
It sounds more like the indicator can(relay).Haven't heard it at idle only driving.
It started happening @ about 30000km now at 160K and never an answer.
Hoping the indicators don't flash while I am driving......

TOA.......mmm.... sound like you could be onto something there! How do I go about removing, said bits etc... as i live out of town and the w@&kers charge an arm and a leg to open the door...

You have to take off the top and bottom steering column covers to get to the switch, there's a few screws underneath, then you will have full access to the entire switch.
If you want to become a bit more "hands on" with your car repairs and maintenance I'd recommend spending 30 or so dollars on a gregory's manual for your car, they have detailed instructions with pictures on how to take apart just about everything on your car.

I think the only thing to do is replace your blinker stalk, this is starting to become common in VT models.
Tom
I have had the same problem with my VT2 Berlina (w/cruise c). The ticking is definately the blinker relay although the lights do not flash when it ticks. I changed the relay with my VY (same part number) and it still does it.
I have been told in another thread that it is the stalk, which I agree with. As it has cruise control, I was thinking of retrofitting a VY stalk with cruise, as the controls are so much easier to use.
(1) Has anyone tried this?
(1) Are the wire COLOURS the same from VT to VY, so that I could manually attach them, even if the plugs are different?
(3) is the cruise control wiring the same through the stalk?
Any help would be appreciated.![]()

Mark.
