    hey guys.
im just after a kit/switch that shuts off the back breaks when you flick the switch. if any 1 knows where i can pick one up for a vs commodore or a place that installs them give me a comment or even any helpfull info. my mates car had one already installed when he got it and it saves the back breaks good. eg when skiding

I've been researching these recently, the best one out seems to be the one sold by B&M. The rest seem to be copies and use inferior parts however you must note that B&M recommend that you only keep the kit activated for a max of 1 minute (however many people verify it works perfect after). The copy companies don't even give a timelimit on their product - I know it seems like if they don't give a time limit its better however looking at the types of solonoids they use it seems as if it wouldn't even last half a minute.
Best I've seen a B&M kit going for on ebay was like $110 then you would need to get it fitted, but when dealing with your brakes its worth spending that bit extra isn't it?

Another thing you might want to consider (if your electrically minded and willing to take the risk) would be to tap into your ABS module, as the ABS has the power to control brakes individually therefor you would be able to rig yourself up a switch which made the brakes stop working entirely by using your existing ABS module! Meaning you would only have to run an extra few wires for a switch and not actually tap into your brake lines etc...

PS. The laws for differ from state to state as to wether 'line lock' kits are legal - Remember that its tampering with the cars brake lines!

Using the ABS would require some reprogramming. Disabling the ABS would only make the brakes come on regardless of motion. The ABS works by sensing wheel movement, if you wanted to keep the front brakes applied while having the rears moving it would require the module thinking that the rears weren't moving at all.

Oh, and a lot of these kits won't work if the vehicle has ABS.

Can't you just wire a switch/button in that bypasses the module and makes the front brakes engage?

But the module would still receive the signal from the rear wheels. The brakes are applied by the pedal, not electrically, the module monitors wheel movement. When the module detects wheel lock up it cycles a solenoid that stops fluid from reaching that wheel. The braking system is still mechanical. You may be able to stop the ABS from working making the wheels lock up, but you wouldn't be able to prevent the brakes from working via the ABS.

Interesting... was just a theory on the ABS anyway. I wouldn't be game to tamper with it on my own car haha.

Was referring to NAAFs post where he linked a line locker kit, and said alot don't work with ABS. I have been using the B&M one for years, and never a fault with the kit, or the ABS

line lockers work with ABS (mechanically/hydraulic etc), it's just that some later model cars will have the ABS fault light show (becaue as NAAF mentioned, it senses the rear wheels spinning continuesly when the fronts aren't which is a condition the ABS unit is suppose to prevent). however it resets apparently when you switch the ignition off.

Vise Grips do damage the lines.
I used to get the abs light come up in my VU after doing a skid, simple turn off and restart got rid ofit. guess it did a test or something.
THe B&M linelocker kit is a good bit of kit, its the one I would go for..
