Haltech Aftermarket ECU's
With a ECU available on the market to suit your application and vehicle type, here are the most common ECU's fitted to VL-VZ commodores.
VN/VP Auto Manual
VR/VS Manual Only
VT/VZ Manual Only
E6GMX suggested for application fitted and tuned from $1700 Driveaway.
VR/VS Auto/Manual
VT/VZ If wanting to remove MAF and have full control on fuel & ignition parameters.
E6X suggested for application fitted and tuned from $2400 driveaway
For outright drag/race car applications E11v2 suggested depending on application.

$ounds too dear!
"E6GMX suggested for application fitted and tuned from $1700 Driveaway"
Gee that sounds a bit dear!
I purchased an E6GMX for $1050
Had it mapped, dynoed and tuned for approx $300.( They had it on the dyno a long time as it was not running well w ith the stock computer when we first put it on and they sorted out an issue with a sensor etc.
Unless the prices have gone up outrageously in the last 12 months!

This is straight from Haltech themselves
The E6GMX Kit includes:
ECU Programmable Computer, Instruction Manual on CD, Programming Disk, Patch Loom,
Programming Cable, Haltech Stickers.
RRP: $1190 AUD
+ fitting of 10minutes + dyno tuning.
Im gathering the car they fitted it to was for the vehicle mentioned in your title a speedway car... so what fuel consumption are u getting from the vehicle, or did they just tune the vehicle for peak power?
As the factory tune they supply with the ECU, yes it will start and run the vehicle, which we all know the fuel consumption and driveability of the vehicle is the key factor, so have u payed for a custom tune or a few peak power runs....thats the question you have to ask yourself.

Brad..
Just wondering what the difference is with the Haltech compared to the stock Holden ECU ?? can the Haltech be tuned better ??

Depending on your application, for example fuel and ignition tables have alot more adjustments than the early ECU's, also boost friendly means excellent for power and drivability whislt on and off boost, fuel economy with other key factors eg 2 stage tunes, also built in boost contollers and turbo timers etc etc....
Its just the same as a VT-VY LS1 PCM, compaired to the VE E38 PCM, with twice as many tuning points achieveable, take for example the fueling tables, the VT-VY adjustments are every 400rpm and every 5kpa, where the E38 PCM, give u the ability to adjust down to every 200rpm and or 2 kpa.
the E38 tuning programme just gives even better drivability, engine protection etc.....but would do the expensive upgrade on your vehicle...no u wouldnt, its the same with the Haltech, for modified vehicles then yes, it a very worthy upgrade, but this depends on modifications on each and every individual.

List what modifications you have. As u might be better of with a custom memcal to suit your application.

I been thinking bout halltech for quite a while now, so few q's
The 2 stage tune, is that meaning you can have a button that you can push and she sets up for peak power, and just econ when off, or is it nothing like that
2, It is a replacement, and not just a piggyback im hoping
3, Is it worth it for my car - VR Ute, V8 Man, extractors, single 2 1/2 straight through mufflers, cold air intake, k&n filter, but in the future, im most likely gonna stroke to 333 or 355, just not sure yet
And last, if fitted to my current setup, what kinda power/consumption would be achievable?

Due to the model of the car u have there are 2 ways we can tune the vehicle, either remap the factory memcal, or we can install a direct plug in E6GMX, both of these computers will have the ability to net u great gains.
the 2 stage tune, i use only for turbo equiped cars. This is setup with a boost controller, making dual setting boost pressure. Im firmly a believer that the car should be tuned only on 1 tune, not a switched setup.
