Default RAM Air Induction

Ram air device can also provide forced induction. When the car is travelling in speed, air will be forced into the engine manifold through the ram air inlet which usually locates on the top of bonnet. That create a slightly higher pressure than normal aspiration.

In fact, you can see ram air devices whenever you watch motor racing. The air box in every formula 1 race cars and the roof air inlet of GT race cars are all ram air devices. A Formula 1 engineer said a typical air box can gain 20 horse power when the car is running at 200 kph.

Great for race applications but it's effects on public roads within legal speed limits are going to be minisucle compared to other devices.

There will always be the legality issues as well of protruding scoops/inlets etc.

Anyone who regularly does high speed highway runs in the Northern Territory will be able to appreciate power gains while travelling at 200kph, lol.

We designed many types of RAM-Air Design CAI Intake Set-ups, all of which worked really well at high speeds and Full Throttle, but had some major flaws with part throttle due to MAF meter implications.

We divised our Type-S CAI System to be the Very Best Available Intake Upgrade for Ecotec and Supercharged V6's without any negative side-effects. Cost is $295 and Dyno Proven Gains from 4-9kW are expected.

More info can be found here:

Hope this helps.

i have noticed a difference in intake manifold and fuel rail temps have droped to nearly ambient temps on a good run since ive put the cut down hornet scoop on my car to get the blower to fit so it would be a good mod to squeeze out extra power at the least run cooler.at the same time i binned the rubber seal that runs along the rear edge of bonnet

We forgot to mention - with the upcoming MAP Software Upgrade, RAM Air Induction will be more feasible as it's not trying to stuff a whole heap of air down the throat of the MAF and skew A/F ratio's when just cruising at higher speeds ... this is the main impediment to Ram Air working on MAF equipped cars

The future of the MAP Software may make it all feasible again

Regards
