Default engine noise not normal

i have owned my supa6 for some months now and it is bog stock. but over the last month it has developed a ticking noise. it is only audiable between 1500-2300 revs then is drowned out by other noises. i have my suspicions but some input would be great

You need to have a listen under the bonnet and see if you can work out if it is coming from eg front,back,L/R side. then report back.

ya gotta love them XU6's

first thing i thought was oil change as well, i know they are worlds apart but i thought my VN was dying in the a s s, nothin a good service didnt fix.
i like to think its not so much how long since you last service but how many clicks have ya done since the last one.
once you oil loses its syntheticness, it sounds like you a shaking a can of bolts!

it has only done 3000km since the last service. as for which side of the engine the noise is coming from i have not had a good look, but will get back to you. and engine oil it is what holden put in 3000km ago. when they service my car next i will ask them to put Castrol 10W/60-R Fully Synthetic (the one tonsta seggested). the current oil is very dis-coloured though.

Does the it sound louder when you first start the car up and then it quiets down ? Or does it sound the same all the time ?

You'll probablly notice it more if you leave the car unstarted for a few days... if you only notice it when you start up and then it goes away then it's probably the lifters sticking...drop the oil and use quality oil and go for a long drive to see if it frees them up...if that dont work you could try some of that anti-sticky lifter **** and see if that helps otherwise you may need to replace the lifters which will cost abit...mainly due to the time and cost of gaskets etc...

If the noise is the same all the time it may be an exhaust manifold leak that you're hearing...I hope that helps
