I think he means where to weld??
This might be a good idea for my gemini haha.
You weld the spider gears to the shaft so they don't turn independently.
Hahahaha at top pic^ I almost pissed myself when I first saw that and read the owner stuffed the clutch trying to take off![]()
Didn't your mate do that as a joke? You posted that a while ago....funny stuff but.
Yeah... pretty sure it was a prank... I just remembered seen the image and thought I would pinch the pic to demonstrate how to do it right and wrong...
The pics I saw was also in the diff housing, and then the one as above with it removed. You could easily get that back in the housing if the pinion is welded in the correct position. The pinion would slide back into place then tighten the carrier bearings, no?
If it was a joke then I just died a little inside.
maybe i guess.
Ha ha saw the first pic and cacked myself haha.
Doing the gemini on w.e
just curious, how reliable is a diff, once it has been welded?
ps... just get a mini spool for 80buks i found it easyer just to stick that in

I've got some mates that decided to weld their diffs. (bit tight on cash)
ones a manual V6 VR
the other an auto V6 VS
the manual one's broke an axle (not sure on specifics, just know his up for a new one)
why would the manual one be more susceptible to breaking, if they did an almost identical process to both??
has it got to do with the dumping of the clutch?
thanks
Manuals are a direct drive while in an auto the torque converter and the box itself absorb a lot of the torque from the engine.
i knew a bloke who welded the diff in his HX monaro, drifted round a corner and one of the welds broke off and got jammed solid betwen the crownwheel and pinion. tried going forward or reverse it wouldnt free up, stuck on a main road in arvo peak hour blocking 2 lanes until a mate showed up with a fourbie to tow him off the road. had to drag this thing backwards 50 odd metres until it spat the weld out and freed up. wouldnt have had that problem if a $100 mini spool went in there in the first place
dangerous and almost impossible to reverse your car with
believe it or not, i've actually noticed (on my car) there is less skipping when i reverse park
weird but true![]()
