Default HSV VT 5 Litre vs Standard 5 Litre

Hey all, im having some issues with my 5 litre in my VR and am looking at putting a VT motor in. I have an auto elec prepared to wire it all up but just wondering whats the difference between a standard VT motor and the HSV 195i/220i?

Also what performance figures should i be looking at with an exhaust, intake and tune on the VT motor?

EDIT: Also hoping to keep my VR's Shift kitted auto

Well, if the 195i and 220i motors are anything like the VR/VS 185i/215i, the 220i will be stroked (?), and the 195i will just be based on tune (probably?).

You may have to "downgrade" the engine to VR spec (?).

See this thread, as there seems to be a few answers to your question.

I have read somewhere that the Base VT 179kW motor has a different cam to that of the 195kW HSV donk. The 220i is the 5.7L version.

Yeah the 220i is the 5.7 stroked version, I think only found in the GTS's and some Senators. The 195i will be similar to the 5 litre blocks in the 185 VS Clubsports. I imagine what got the VT's that extra 10 kw would be tune related.

It's all tune. They are almost indentical in differences to the early 165 vs 185 tunes. But when you stick the motor in the VR you can pretend it has a little cam in it because the roller cam is more sporting than the early one, alot of people do that swap VT into VN-VS

The 195 engine has a different cam equivalent to a crane 276 or similar.
the 220 engine is a stroker (5.7) with the sae cam as the 195 engine

a vt 179 motor is almost complty diffrent to a 195kw

in short a vt 195 motor is a 220 motor minus the stroker crank

As far as i know All VT 5ltr have roller cam and four bolt mains and higher nickel content in the block (makes them stronger)
Also I'm pretty sure that VS 5ltr is Sequential injection too. Easy way to check is take the dizzy cap off and look at how many hall effect sensors there are in there. If it has two then it is sequential. If it only has one then it is just your standard group fire set up.
