im sure that magazine 'street machine commodores' or whatever it is that the SM crew churn out once every few months did a big write up a while ago on 50MAN's car. its a good read if u can get ya hands on a copy.
my live axle vs is running king springs, bilsteins and whiteline adjustable bars set on maximum stiffness and its pretty stiff. i havent had it on the track yet but i've tested it out a bit and it works well, hardly any body roll no matter what i do with it.

You wanna run at a minimum 300-350 lb spring in the rear with shocks to suit, the biggest sway bar you can find for the back and some adjustable upper trailing arms on the diff. Udjust the pinion angle to about 15-20 deg up. This will help to promote wheel spin easily. prob wouldn't hurt to stiffen the front up a little too just for ease of control

its not the same bloke, 50MAN started out as a road rego'd 5L VNSS dumped on chasers and evolved into a track only weapon with a tough LS1, cage and all the good stuff. type 50MAN into youtube or better yet, get to a powercruise and check it out. that man is a lunatic and has no fear

    Okay.

First, you need a MANUAL Commodore, preferably a V8. A 6 just will not have the power to link corners and sustain wheel spin. Secondly you would be better off with an IRS car as the camber will promote wheelspin. You need to remember that whether you have a V6 or a V8 (5L) the car will not have the power with standard mods to do what the japs do, so you need to use the camber etc to your advantage. Before someone mentions that IRS cars handle better due to the rear squatting when you put the power down and gaining traction, with rear suspension as hard as it will be with this setup there will be basically no squat at all.

Now you need suspension, adjustable front coilovers with 9kg springs and KYB shocks will do fine. Slam the car low to drop the centre of gravity. You also want about -2.5degrees front camber, so look at some adjustable camber tops and or modified lower control arms. Also look for more lock, lock spacers are good here (don't know if any are available for Commodores) also look at the length of your power steering rack and see if there are any modifications you can do to that to increase the steering speed.

In the rear you will want to slam it to exactly the same height as the front. You will want 7kg springs in the rear with KYB shocks. No need to worry about rear coilovers. Big swaybars front and rear will also be desirable. After a few track days if you find the camber to much then get a camber kit, but don't dial it all out. Its necessary for heavier underpowered cars.

For wheels you will want Chasers with probably 10mm ish spacers to create as much offset as possible. Probably need to bash your guards out a bit. Also run GOOD tyres on the front, rear tyres don't need to be very good at all. They won't last long and you wont be running big power so traction wont be a huge issue. Also don't get too big tyres, 205/s will go nicely, also try and drop the rolling diameter a bit. You want the sidewalls stiffer to promote traction loss.

Okay, the diff. This is a hard one, the standard LSD from an SS or HSV will not be good enough. Unless you want to fork out for a mechanical 2-way LSD the best option is a locker. This can be a mini-spool, LOKKA brand or a welded centre. Personally, i'd just weld the centre because its by far the cheapest option and if its welded properly you do not need to worry about it breaking. The axles will almost certainly let go before the centre. Unlike the standard LSD, a locker or a 2-way will help with using compression lock to gain angle into a corner.

You will also need the heaviest clutch you can find. 3Puk Brass Button would be prime.

Lastly, completely strip the interior. NO stereo, sound deadening, rear seats, carpet, passenger seat, remove whats not necessary in the dash. Commodores need to go on a MASSIVE diet.

Don't expect to be competetive with the real good sliders in the Jap cars, it just wont happen. But you will be able to have a lot of fun and link a fair few corners and throw a lot of smoke. With Commodores unless you have a big budget you just won't have enough steering lock to hold any sort of major angle and the car is just too heavy. Im sure there could be some cheap, ghetto mods you could do to rectify this. I'm used to this being done to Corollas and the standard thing for camber is Corona lower control arms, for extra lock its power steering arms and a lock spacer. Commodores just don't have the compatability with parts from other cars to be able to do this sort of thing.
