Yes, I remember reading the same thing.

    After a some searching:

Drain, replace the filter and fill with Dexron III. Run for 5-10 minutes. Do another full oil change with a new filter.

But how do you make sure all the trans fluid is out before you refill with engine oil?

And what are you trying to get out of the engine in the first place?

Dexron III has detergent components that cleans the transmission and breaks up the crap that is hardened and built up, that is why it is not good for an old transmission or one on the way out, if it wasn't in great condition to start with, most of the time you can bet the solenoid will start to stick after and filters will get blocked and many other things. By flushing an engine with it, I think it would be overkill, you'de be better off running the wynns stuff through the petrol tank, injector clean or whatever you are trying to achieve.

well my vx has nearly 200 ks on it so the reasoning behind it is as the ks rack up and if the services arent up to date (not sure cause im 3rd owner )the oil puts a varnish and other types of deposits left from the old oil throughout the motor ,doin this helps lift all that ect ,just goin off what i remember, it must not not imperitive to do this or every one would be doin it ,

Try the simpler methods first, every engine does have some sort of build up, but it's driving fine, don't stress too much, just start giving it regular services and start with a major one, plugs and all.

In my opinion, the only way to clean an engine is to pull it apart!

Anything else is like pissing through the toilet window and hoping to hit the bowl.

yeah but the average joe isn't or can't pull down a whole engine, and rebuild it ready for work over the weekend, if it's regularly serviced and maintained, it shouldn't get that bad in the first place.

That's a waste of time all modern oils have detergents

    Motor Oil Myths and Facts

    Detergent Oil
Virtually all modern multi-weight oils are detergent oils. Detergent oil, cleans the soot of the internal engine parts and suspends the soot particles in the oil. The particles are too small to be trapped by the oil filter and stay in the oil until you change it. These particles are what makes the oil turn darker. These tiny particles do not harm your engine. When the oil becomes saturated with soot particles and is unable to suspend any more, the particles remain on the engine parts. Fortunately, with the current oil change intervals the oil is changed long before the oil is saturated.
