As my work car ive got a V6 4Litre Supercharged Hilux, the supercharger is a
Eaton M90 and im interested in putting in a blow off valve.
I have always been a turbo man so would like to know whats involved
in putting in a blow off valve into this setup.
Can it be done? Does it need any drilling/tapping done?
Thanks for any advice you guys can give me!
hard question to answer without knowing how many neons you have![]()
Whats wronge with putting a bov on? Its a jacked up 4wd, its not one of those low riding pieces of crap.
Whats the point, trying to make it sound like one of those low pieces of crap ricers car?
The TRD is a cool truck(I own a sr5 d4d) why not trick it up so it goes better, if you want to spend money on it?
But if your the type that wears your hat backwards and listens to doof doof go for it![]()
Blow off valves serve a purpose, there not just there too make sound. They make the supercharger more efficient by dumping the excess air instead of sucking it back in and creating excess drag on the
charger. You can also get silent bov which arent loud like most, which will be what im getting.
depending on the setup its pretty much impossible to make them open a blowoff valve anyway due to there not being a throttlebody that pressure is closing against and no vacuam on the other side to pull the valve open since the throttle is before the blower
I tune the oldschool way fear on the passengers face and knuckle colour cant go wrong
tabbacco is still my favorite vegetable
It is possible though.
I'm supercharging my VS soon and one of the options i'm looking at is a plumback BOV, if you modify the spring it will open under vacume and recirculate the air through the charger.
What i'm talking about is essentially a bypass valve.
Demo9pro, ignore the first few replies, not everyone here will bag you for asking questions.
as to answer your question, i didn't think it was possible with the m90.

ok to answer your question properly depending on your setup a bov is totally unnecessary
on your blower, reason being is that it does not create compressor surge when the throttle is slammed shut as it runs at the speed of the crank, and will stop making boost with engine speed. A turbo and centrifugal however will keep spinning after you get off the throttle compressor surge is created and the bov vents it off.
So if your blower is mounted after your throttlebody a bov will be for absolutely no reason what so ever, none. If your blower is mounted before the throttle then yes you may get a little surge and a bov could be used if you feel it necessary....
Good to see that this has become a technical discussion
You can also use a BOV to regulate boost, but it's not my preferred method, set things up correctly and you wont need it.
