i was just wondering whats better out of the 202 blue, red or black motors ??
just a query really, Pro's / Con's / differences etc??
cheers Brettt~
depends on year of manufactur....I know some of the later red motors ( VB commy and WB were stamped 3.3 while the early H series were 202.... later model VK calais/Royal 3.3 Injected Heads were fitted with larger valves... the blue black commadore motors from V C onwards also used a 12 port head were the red motor used a 9 port....

Thanks heapss NZVK308 =]
i kept seeing people talking about it so i thought i should ask haha
got a 81 VC commo with blue motor
The blue and black motors were much more developed than the old red motors, particularly in the breathing department. As already mentioned, they had 12 port heads, with individual inlet and exhaust ports, whereas the old reds had "siamesed" inlet ports, with 2 cylinders feeding off one port, which had a large cast boss running through the centre to accommodate the head bolts. These heads do not breathe as well as the later heads. Prior to the blue heads being introduced, Yella Terra and other firms used to modify the reds by cutting out the bosses, polishing the ports and re-inserting much narrower tubes into the port, to accomodate the head bolts.
Blues and blacks had electronic ignition compared to the old points system used on reds. They also introduced the Varajet 2 barrel carbies, instead of the old single barrel Stromberg. They were more powerful and ran more smoothly (when they were properly tuned) than the old reds did with all the anti pollution plumbing that the red required to comply with the ADR's in those days. I think the blue crank had more counterbalances than the red but can't be sure - it's a long time since I worked on one. You could get steel cranks in some versions of the red but I can't recall if any blue or black cranks were upgraded for strength as there were no performance versions of either motor except for the EFI in the VK - perhaps its crank was upgraded.
Power output for the 202 went from 66kw in the VB with a red motor, to 83 kw in the VC with a blue. A standard 202 black in the VK was good for 86kw and the EFI version put out 109kw.
Thanks heaps Calaber, that was quite insiteful =]
and answerd the question quite well lol
Also a adptor can be purchaced off the shelf at many auto parts and speed shops for 2 barrel holley ( 350cfm ) to bolt up to the 6... along with good exhaust and ignition make the ol tart sing!!
