the VT LS1's had a lot of problems, but they seemed to sort out most of the dramas in the VX

Not true. The piston slap issue was still a concern right up to the VY. The VX though has the LS6 manifold on it, which flows better than the LS1 manifold.

Yeah there was an early piston slap issue, however most of the engines were fully replaced under warranty.

Had 2 of them and no probs with either. As Grennan said, some early ones had piston slap issues and others had excessive oil consumption however most were replaced or rebuilt under warranty.

I would not hesitate buying another one.

Rebuilt? If you call slapping a new set of pistons and rings in without honing the bores or balancing the rotating assembly "rebuilding", then yes, they were rebuilt....

Had a VU SS...no problems,VX SS had slight piston noise during warm up,no oil consumtion or noise when at operating temp so didnt bother with it,VY SS had no dramas.

Was there any VY's with the piston slap issue?

Dont think so. It was mainly the VT's and I think the early VX's. I know when I was looking for a VX SS some of the series 1 engines were replace under warranty but I didnt find a Series 2 that was replaced.

lol - fair enough. Lets just agree to use the term loosely.

some of the vys did have issues. had a bloke i know buy one that sounded like a truck after a while. but the engine was replaced under warrenty.
from what ive read it was most of the vx engines that were recalled. after the vt ls1s they started making the engines in mexico instead of the US and there were some quality control issues.

considering the huge list of problems the VT LS1's had, they did sort out 'most' of the problems by VX.

depends on what year your vz is to what engine is easier. if its an early vz that the ss had a 5.7, go the 5.7, if the ss had a 6.0, go the 6.0

reasoning is, if you use all the holden bits to do the conversion, you wont need an engineers certificate, i think its called an owner certified modification but not 100%

For the cost - just sell the 6 and buy one factory fitted with an 8. Will be thousands cheaper.
