hey all was woundering if an awd vl is possible
i carnt find anything about it being done anywhere and am thinking about how i could do it.
any help would be greatly appreciated cheers
Possible, although you would have to spend alot of money for it. Custom parts possibly which = $$$! Itld just be easier to go buy an AWD car
The first thing that came to my head was using the components from a gtr r32. But im no car expert, its just a thought. made sense seing as though the rb engine interoperability

If its got Wheels or Boobs its gonna cost ya money
haha not exactly what i was talkin bout but thats kinda kool lol... the vl i was talkin bout had awd and the all wheel steer, the rear only turned slightly or somethin i dunno not too familure with how the godzilla gtr's worked

What jellycalais said. It would be easier and cheaper to just buy a 4wd car. Unless you must have 4wd VL for whatever reason.
According to carsales, $12 grand will get you a nissan skyline R32 GTR which will outperform 12grand of 4wd work on a VL.
saw it a few times in newcastle years ago, was in a magazeine -alot of gibson motorsport gear in it when the team went to over to holden commodore.4 wheel drive godzilla commodore - looked tough and sounded very tough on the road.
yeah I've got the article in one of my old magazines. Somewhere in the archives!!
but yep from memory it was basically a R32 GTR with a VL bodyshell - 4 wheel steer included. Very tidy job.
Apparently the track measurement of the R32 is fairly similar to the VL, which made it the obvious choice for the donor vehicle
Would cost a mint to do though
i had thought i an idea like this on my vl because of the whole "thats a bloody quick vl".... "yeah its got a gtr engine + running gear"but the whole cost of it i though i might aswell get a r32 gtr
i also had thoughts of a xr6 turbo and but the running gear from the awd territory because it used the same engine and stuff to make like a xr6 tt awd godzilla thing
I remember reading somewhere a while back that some mob built a awd vl hybrid that had mostly r32 parts, apparently it was the bee's knee's and was built for peter brock(cant exactly remember if it was him or sum1 else) to race in tazzy targa but for some reason it didnt pass scrutineering.
Any how it cost something like $142,000 to build! but this was built back when vl's and r32's were rolling pretty much so i they were doing it with brand new cars.
These days you would be able to pick up a old skyline for a few grand and a vl for next to nothing, you could probably have it on the road for less than 20g's i would think.
Would be a grouse project and it would handle like all f@#k too!
Easiest way to make an AWD Commodore would to get a later model VT-VZ, and use Adventra or Cross 6/8 running gear.
I've personally got an AWD Cross 6 One Toner, and I can tell you that the F38R62 torque split is MAGIC when you pull the traction control fuse out. The front diff and transfer case will bolt into any VT-VZ shell (think HSV Coupe 4) provided you carry across the engine subframe across. Added bonus of the AWD subframe is that is pisses off the radius rod setup in favor of A arm, and also gives you about 80mm more track...
When I've got more money than sense I'd love to make a V8 AWD VZ style side and normal height ute...
But in the mean time my higher riding 1 toner than drives like a car, goes on the beach, tows the rally car, and holds ridiculously high slip angles round corners on dirt when you want it too will do me!![]()

I think your trying to live out some kind of weird fantasy, i'm not having a go, so don't get the wrong idea here....
You obviously don't have a lot of money, if you did, you most likely wouldn't be driving a VL(unless it was something really special) your's is uniqe, being a Berlina Turbo, but nothing spectacular either way.
With the amount of money it would cost you, for the whole conversion, why wouldn't you just spend the money on the car, as it is? It will be lighter, faster, handle better, and leave you with more money left over, for other things. Then, you can say, yeah drive a VL, and it is something special.....
Correct. The the GTS-4, otherwise known as GTS-T Type M. There was also a very limited range of GTR running gear'd GTS shells called GTS-4R.
Both were AWD, and both known as GTS.

you could put it on a 4wd chassis like that VN and then airbag sus and drop it to the floor
