    Default Nissan gtr

I currently own a 1990 GTR R32 and am interested to get any opinions of commodore and HSV owners , i know you guys love your cars like i do , but always wondered how any stock R8s HSVs or commodores would go against a stock GTR 32,33,34 off the lights , From what i know a stock R32 will do about :
    ^208kw
    ^1500kgs
    ^4.7 secs 0-100 manufacturers time
    i would expect people to say ;
    crappy ricer
    nissans are slow
    Milk comes in litres. lol
    Commodore will smash GTRs .
I love my V8s too so go easy and have respect for commodore drivers too!!!!!!!!!

I'm of the opinion that Skylines are not all rice boxes, although many people dress them up that way.

I'd have to say you need at least a v8 to keep up with some of them, but that also depends on the year the cars were manufactured. I myself would be interested in the times between them.

GTR has the advantage of 4wd when launching as well. A standard LS1 would struggle to keep up im sure, but tuned ones maybe not

i have massive respect for gtr skylines, mainly coz they look nice when done up properly and with a few mods can go quick as me in bed!

depends what type of hsv ur up against at the lights, the newer hsv'd like the ve's i dont think u would have a chance but might keep up a lil..

    what mods have you done?

i think the 0-100 time for the ls1-2 are in the low 5's, so u might be in for a win..

sorry if that really didnt make sense, im not that sober atm

Wouldn't it be better to see how they fared at the track, rather than on public roads? Street racing is for try hards.

I know someone who has done it to his brand new VE Ute. So he has a 6.0L V8 with Twin Turboes and he uses it for work the power is unimaginable! He doesn't drive hard at all though. Also the turbos are hidden almost under the engine, so you would have no clue that that thing has them in the first place! It's such a sleeper

Hmm, if the GTR was new, it would win against a stock LS1, but being 20 years old, I doubt it would have any hope in hell.

So assuming both cars's engines are rebuilt and in good working order:

    Skyline R32 1990:
    1,430kg
    206KW
    361 N·m
    AWD
    5 Speed Manual

    Commodore VT with LS1:
    1,643kg
    220 kW @ 5000 RPM
    446 Nm @ 4400 RPM
    RWD
    6 Speed Manual

Would do you guys think? Looks like the Skyline would win as the weight + AWD can make a difference.

what is it with people thinking kW are all that matter in a race?

Correct stocky. It's torque that gets the car moving.

the nissan gtrs are knows to be monsters when money is spent on them and the engines can handle massive horse power on stock internals where as i cant imagine to many holdens being the same

its a little sad that at the time the r32 was being sold over here because it was in the supercar races with the cosworths and the commodores they were so good and the way people back then responded to the car was really bad so instead of telling the other manufactures to improve there cars they banned the gtr and cosworth and we where the only country outside japan to get the gtr and we ruined it

Im with VL3.0L, *competitive* Australian Touring car racing dissapeared when the rules changed to only allow RWD pushrod V8 production vehicles from Australia to compete.

    - no more GTR's, BMW's. Cossies, all gone because Australia's cars couldn't compete on the world stage anymore (whether they ever could is debatable).
    - If you look at the crap they call cars racing in the V8 supercars, they are identical execpt for the badge on the boot, the lights, and the bloke that builds the engine.

Give me a DTM or V* brute race anyday, much, much more interesting

stock for stock a GTR will chop a commy off the line any day of the week.

Light car, AWD launches, healthy power figure
Soft stock tune, heavy and RWD

Once the mods come into it it is a whole new ball game.

I'm certain that it's safe to say the average LSx Commodore is much faster than the average GTR Skyline here in Australia. You can see that on any drag strip anywhere in the country

R32's are quite a bit slower in actual real life between those two cars

lol... i've owned an LS1 commodore, driven plenty of skylines. R32 GTS-t, R32 GTR, R33 GTS't, etc... and even an R32 GTS-t with a few mods (eg: exhaust, cooler, boost, etc) will leave most LS1's behind even on the stock turbo. Although a tuned LS1 will be quicker than a mildly modded GTS-t.

BUT, a stock GTR is that much faster again, its silly to compare it to a stock LS1. no comparison. GTR is much much faster.

but then again if you add turbos to an LS1 then the game changes again obvioiusly. it comes down to what you do... but stock for stock, GTR so much faster its not funny

    my 2c

    ~ edit ~
and one more thing to mention... a stock GTR doesn't have 206kw. they've got more like 250kw, and easily make 300kw on 14psi. 206kw is the official figure nissan claimed they had to comply with some japanese bullcrap so it wasn't too powerful lol. they were telling porkies!

you pour money into the LSx pour the same money into the skyline, add aftermarket twin turbo to a V8,then add it to a skyline i wonder who would win (keeping in mind ive seen both skylines and twin turbo 8's in excess of 1200hp)

dont forget your comparing a car that was on sale from 1989 - 1992 (Nissan R32 GTR) to a car thats sold between 1999 - 2005 (VT SS II - VZ SS) so there is atleast 10 years difference between these 2 stock and if you did a skyline the same year against a SS then you would be dreaming to win on stock gear
