Hi all, I've got a new VE SV6 and I'm thinking of getting a new clear coat sprayed.
The paint is in brand new condition but I know nothing about the painting process. My questions are;
If I supply the paint how much paint would I need?
How much $$ to spray the car by a pro?
Could I just get it sprayed over the existing clear coat or would their have to be prep work on the car first?
What the hell did you do to it ?? Let the kids playing NRL on the roof with sandpaper suits?
It shouldnt be to bad for a VE should it?
About as handy as tits on a bull
Maybe I didn't make myself clear. The car is in new condition. No damage to the paintwork what so ever. I want to put a new top coat on so that I can get a pearlescent effect. Just looking into it and trying to do a bit of research so was hoping to get some help with the above questions.
Thanks for your replay.
Top coat clear wont give you any effect that it doesnt already have if it has metallic paint with a clear coat.
For the pearl effect you will need to have the car re-sprayed in a pearl paint then clear coated.
What your wanting is a full (open door) respray which will cost anywhere from 3k to 10k
Thanks for the info. Sounds like more than I want to do. Was reading a article about a new set of clear coats that have developed that give car a matt finish, a gloss finish or a pearlescent effect. I was going to look into it a little more depending on the cost but if it won't do anything then I'll leave it and save up for the full respray.
Maybe these clear coats only work with a specific base?
Cheers mate.

Lets say there was a "pearl clearcoat" out there that actually worked.... Every car would be pearl. Its as easy as them making it in spray cans so every homo can paint their car with it.
Main reason they dont make it is because clear coats dont last as long as actual paint. You should see my bonet... queensland sun stripped the clear right off it.
Theres one way it can be done. It requires them mixing the clear in with the same colour as your car aswell as pearl. Its still going to have to be re-sprayed, rubbed back ect.. the same colour wont cost as much as a different colour but yeah... round 3 grand for a re-spray (just the outside with no panel work)
Thanks for all the great feedback OZ
