hey guys and girls .
im just looking to buy a vl commodore.
not familiar with the rb30 engine.
so was just wondering if some of use could just let me no on the good side and the bad side of these engines and also what i should look out for when im going to buy one.
cheers guys
Good side: Those turbo motors went like stink about 15 years ago
Bad side: My generation ran most of them into the ground
Good side: There aren't many left
Bad side: Scrap steel isn't what it used to be 3 years ago.
Reaper
I have a vl for sale if your interested?
Look out for rust
Especially around front and rear windscreens. Even if there are just small parts you can see you can guarantee that it will be alot worse under the windscreens.
Check to see if the rubbers have been replaced in the suspension, as well as shocks and struts because even the youngest VL is still 22 years old.
i bought a vl last year and i have been trying to find a excessive fuel consumption problem since i got it in june and still havent found the problem after replacing and fixing alot of parts (and we have a manual for it)
so just beware that if there is a problem it may be hard to find whats causing it
CHEERS VL3.0L. Will Defently Keep An Eye Out For Those Things
Motor wise they are pretty good just got to keep em cool.
Body wise check for rust in front and rear seals and rh chassis rail where exhaust comes down is where the get it.
And the autos take a bit of abuse before they blow.still a pretty reliable car in mu opinion and ive had heaps of them.
Oh and afm goes fairly often as well as crank angle sensors.
as the others have said, around the windscreens on vls love to rust
but they are a very reliable car.
i bought a calais for my first car 2 years ago.. only thing i did was replaced distributer and leads off my paddock thrasher vl and it hasnt missed a beat since then and i drive it regularly
if u find a unmolestered vl it will be a gembut because the are so old and cheap it can be hard to find a good one. (as p platers rape them lol)
also air flow meters have a tendancy to fk up.
