I can't answer your question but if your old man has any more engine left, can you ask him if hes interested in adopting me.

    **** me - neither. Cortina's were ****ed with a 250 6 cyl. I'd consider something a little better balanced.

Why the Cortina? Any particular reason? I'd be looking at getting a HQ for a Chev big block, not much work to slip it in.

Yeah, I know he said that and it's up to him but the amount of work would be enormous as the Cortina is not that big under the bonnet and the Chev BBs are pretty wide. As far as Cortinas go the 74 is a good choice to mod as they look rather good, I just don't see a BB Chev being a good choice for one as a transplant. If he was set on a '74 Cortina he's probably better off selling both the BBs and buying a really nice Ford small block. If he's set on a Chev BB a HQ is ideal. I 'spose it comes down to what the car is going to be used for. A 454 powered Cortina would make a nice 1/4 miler with a lot of work and money.

You should probably measure up the BB and the engine bay and see what you're going to need to chop up to fit it in there. Then talk to a suspension/chassis person as the suspension will need to handle all that weight and I'd think the BB's torque will twist the Cortina bad so the whole thing will need reinforcement. Is it a TC or TD? I like the TD.

its a TC body but with TD headlights tail lights and intirior.
the 427 will be a tight fit and yeah i know the reinforcement is gunna be a pain in the butt but it will be worth it.
the suspenion is gunna cost me 3 grand to keep it legal.
although a avinue just opened up 5 minutes ago.
mate is gunna sell me his worked 351 and a 2 speed power glide and a 4 speed manual

You know there are 351 Windsors stroked to 427? Much more suitable to the Cortina if you want cubes. Have a look at some of the 351 strokers here to see what's possible with a smallblock: Ford_Index_Stroker Engines_Crate Motors_Stroker Kits_NC Custom Stroker Engines-TandLEngine Development Stanfield, NC

It's really up to you and your wallet. I'd think a BB in a Cortina would handle like a pig on the roads. That much weight in the front would probably make it almost a given that you'd have to use the accelerator to slide the arse to match the understeer the weight in the front would cause. Then you'd be a hoon of course Remember this is just my opinion and you should do what you really want to do.

edit: Just googling the TD and I'd suspect the TC is the same in this regard, the weight of the straight 6 made them under steer, imagine what twice the weight would do to handling.
    Here's a nice TD with v8: http://www.pepsgarage.com/cortina_phase.htm
