In relation to my question about which is quicker,Manual trans or Auto trans. Can some1 tell me how much power the torque converter in a atuo sucks out of the motor?
Also what diff gears come in what?
Im told 3:08s come in the autos and 3:46s in the manuals (vt-vx)
The bigger the convertor, the more power it will rob, but it will produce more torque.. 3.07's in Auto, 3.46 in Manual Holden / 3.73 Manual HSV
Cheers mate, finally some1 who knows what they r talking about
an auto will actually have a torque multiplication effect for an instant when you take off (hence why most drag racers use an auto) however even a good auto will have approx 3% slip in the top end. When it comes to power the easiset way to explain power is that kw/hp is a multiplication of torque times revs this is an oversimplification however torque is more important than outright kw. Torque is twisting force and the more twisting force the more "power" you will have.
The way I like to explain it is look at the power output of a honda s2000, they make heaps of kw's for their engine size but stuff all torque. The reason the kw figuire is so high is they rev like nobodies business (hence torque x revs = kws)
