Hi,
Can someone help me.. My VZ has Extractors, Hi Flow Cats with a 2.5’’ twin system and a K&N cold air intake, KPM did the custom tune a year ago, and they got a max of 250kw at the wheels. I have since changed mechanics shops and asked them to put it on their Dyno to see if I could get any more power out of it, but they were unable to do any changes to it because KPM locked the computer. I decided to go back to them to have it unlocked, they said “If you want it unlocked we’ll put your factory tune back in”(is this normal?) KPM also said they own the custom tune (even though I paid $1000 for it WTF???) After a lengthy heated talk they said they’d unlock it with no change to the tune. All good they unlocked it but now it has the factory standard tune back in it.
My questions are
Consumer Affairs?
Can they lock the computer without telling me?
Surely they can’t own the Dyno Tune that I paid $1000 for??
I thought I’d get more than 250Kw at the wheels with these mods??
Any Answers??
Cheers Paul.
Yeah all tuners lock their tunes and is quite normal. Otherwise anyone with the right software could simply copy it then flog it off as their own. Think about all the research and development KPM put into tuning. Same with all good tuners. 250rwkw is heaps for bolt ons as well.
Yep thats normal.
That's incorrect. Some tuners lock their tunes, some don't. Tuners have different views on locking and 'owning their tunes'. I know many who don't (including mine) as they don't believe they have anything to hide or are worried about people stealing their tunes.
OP, if KPM (or other tuners) want to keep their tunes locked, that's up to them. There's nothing you can do about it unfortunately. It's a lesson for the future I guess, check with your tuner prior to getting work done.
Harsh... of them to take my tune, i wished I had of known all of this before I started
My new Dyno Mechanic doesn't lock his..
