G'day everyone, I'm only new to this forum thing so I hope someone can help.
I think a certain workshop is trying to squirm their way out of admitting they 'stuffed up' I own & am proud of my very good 'nik' 1994 statesman, I am only the 2nd owner & the bloke who had it before me was a dealer & ordered 'STATEY' with among other things 'factory fitted' extractors.
Now the incident, a couple of months ago I had the steering rack replaced/renewed, last week I took the car directly back to the rack rebuilder because of fluid leaking, they tried to tell me that because the extractors were so close to the 'power unit' on the rack that the connecting seal had melted, they took a step back when I said that if this is the case how come the 1st rack was in there for 6.5 years with no incident, they still played on the heat issue.
My question is because I have never heard of this (& I have been around some tricked up cars) has anyone else here heard or experienced the same problem.
BTW I did contact GMH & my local dealer & they have not heard of such a thing either, I just want some 'ammo' if I have to front this mob again.
Dave.
the rack is always close to the exhaust pipe. thats just how it is! (I kent of an idea).
They're copping out.
some after market extractors have pipes that go either side of the power head and cook the seals, if your extractors are like this there is a posability (not saying it is) thats your problem, as to why the original one lasted longer i dont know.
Thank you soops & Glen, Glen my extractors follow the same line as the original system, down the right side, if one is sitting in the car.
Thanks again blokes for your replies.
Dave.
Even with the standard system there is no room there. Must have had a retard design it.
maybe it was a friday afternoon...
what condition are your engine mounts in?
maby you get the exhasut hotter then the previous owner but it is not common for the racks to leak there
