Default Want to convert handbreak from drum to disc.

hi guys. i want to know if there is an easy way to change from drum handbrake to disc handbrake on my vn with the live rear axle. i know that the eb falcons run a disc handbrake which utilizes the normal rear break caliper in one. would that caliper bolt up to the same mounting point on my diff at all. or would a newer model one use the same system that would mount up. any advice would be great.

anythings doable, will need to fab adaptor brackets, longer brake lines maybe, different handbrake cables, etc.

why do you want a disc handbrake? they generally arent as good as a properly adjusted drum handbrake.

*smacks head* i know it sounds stupid but some trucks and tractors are set up like this, a disc brake on the back of the gearbox going onto the drive sharft is the park brake ... but why you would want to do it to a car ..... i dunno

This is the way a hydraulic handbrake is set up, with a seperate caliper on the disc. If you could convert the factory handbrake to hydraulic (doubt itd be legal though), it'd be awesome for motorkhana's/drifting etc etc!

    Factory 5 speed VSII, now 4.2 Litre L67 with T56 6 speed

i dont see how this is retarded at all. i just want to find out if its doable or something similar so i can save a bit of weight and have something a bit more simple to service when its all in one instead of having to pull everthing apart to replace break drum shoes.

lot of effort for little gain. handbrake shoes arent heavy, the disc is, this would mean changing discs aswell to take advantage of that. how often do you change handbrake pads? if you're not using the handbrake for fooly sik drifting or standstill burnouts, they should last years. an extra half hour or so every 5-10 years isnt going to kill you.

drum brakes work better than disc brake on single uses. my impala will stop better than a commo with discs... but only once. put two stops in and i will be struggling

my point is, drum handbrakes work better than disc. if your plan is to lock up the wheels, then adjust them properley and you will have a better result

the vn is disc all round. i am talking about the handbreak which is a drum on the inside of the rear disc rotor.

if you wanted you could put 'T' sections into your brake lines, then convert your handbrake lever to hydrulic ( resivour, slave cylinder etc etc ) that should lock them rears up for what ever you want to do, but once again, not legal

wow a guy has an idea that would probably actually make a vn handbrake work properly and he gets shot down.ive thought about the XF fairmont rear brakes before might have to go buy me a backing plate and disks and calipers and bolt it all on cause im sick of the parking pawl in the auto nearly tearing off after ive parked on a hill and its loaded with all the cars weight
I tune the oldschool way fear on the passengers face and knuckle colour cant go wrong
tabbacco is still my favorite vegetable
