I detailed my engine bay a few weeks ago using degreaser, covered electrical parts, hosed down then did all the plastics. Looks great. Now I want to get into the hard to reach areas without water. It looks great as is but I just want to be able to clean with just a rag. I hear prepsol is a good thing to use. Is that just the wax and grease remover or something else?
I don't like using water under the engine bay and only do so when it is filthy so if I can just add a bit of Prepsol to the rag and clean would be great. If it is just a wax and grease remover I am guessing any brand will do?
Cheers for any input

Apple cider vinegar is a good wax and grease remover
Not sure you can put your hands in it and wont do anything but eats metal, paint and glue in shoes but its not fast acting so if you do leave it too long and wash it straigh off it brings alloy up like new
HCL = hydrochloric acid is a STRONG acid with a pH around 0.5 and it can be fast acting just depends on what it is reacting with. not some think that u want on your hands as it is highly chrosive so ure better of wearing protection or not handle it.
just use kero cause thats bascially what degreasser is (kero in a can)

A guy I know recommended a method to me once and now its what I do all the time.
1. Spray Meguiar's Motorcycle EZ Clean all over the engine bay. I cover some of the major electrical components with electrical tape but generally dont do anything.
2. Let it soak for a period of time (off hand I cant remember - read the side of the bottle).
3. Spray it off with a hose. DO NOT LET IT DRY.
4. There clean engine bay.
Now to give it a bit of a shiny look and bit of protection, we used HOT SHINE TYRE COATING. Comes in a black aerosol can.
I'll do a proper write up with some pics but this above is about all you need to know
I use my normal Meguiar's Gold Class car wash and a sponge to do the entire engine bay, section by section, briefly hosing off as I go. Don't wet the sound deadening mat under the bonnet though, I use the sponge after a good wring out to wash around the edges of the bonnet, then chamois dry with out rinsing.
The rest of the engine bay I rinse, then chamois dry.
'Ah well, I suppose it had to come to this.'
Elbow grease!
