    Default Question about CAI

Hi guys, Just a probably silly question about CAI. Looking at what I assume is a standard (apart from the obvious gas mixer) VS Ecotec induction setup, isn't it already getting cold air induction?

Excuse the dirt, I have better things to do just now than detail the engine bay lol...

I'm assuming maybe the difference between this and an aftermarket one would be the filter setup, or maybe a larger inlet?

I've noticed the Mace CAI ssytem takes more space than the setup I have here. Is that because the filter design is bigger or larger? Or is there an airflow reason? I assume it has a larger mouth.

Given that I have the gas mixer in there too, is there any benefit in a CAI system for me?

I think the vs is the same as vy... in which case its pulling air from over the radiator and then down to the airbox and then in through a panel filter
this means its getting heat soak from going behind the radiator
the mace one is a pod filter in the box pulling cold air from behind the headlight (people will argue for and against the pod filter but to me it will flow more than the standard panel filter or high flow filter)

It looks like its pulling air straight from the front, between the headlight and radiator. The intake mouth looks smallish, I guess that could be improved, but I gather the main difference is the filter, where its getting the air from, and how much air its getting through the intake?

Does this mean I could build an open fronted box behind the headlight, stick a pod filter in there and get an economy or performance advantage similar to the Mace design, or is it more complicated than that?

Again though, does the gas make any difference? I assume gas is delivered cold anyway, like gas coming from a bbq bottle? Does that mean cold air is not as important as good air flow in my situation?

The mace design is just a big box for the pod filter. It's the cost of materials and labour that make it expensive.

So given that I am running on gas, and gas is delivered cold ( i assume? ) into the mixer, is a CAI setup useful to me? The cold of gas coming out of the bottle is a lot colder than intake air anyway? Or am I on the wrong track here?
