    Exhaust leak.

If it's more audible on the gas rather than off the gas, then 100% it is. Just find where the black carbon build up is on the joins of your pipe and there lies your problem.

When an engine is under load and creates backpressure in the exhaust, the pressure buildup will find any and every possible escape outlet. The ticking noise is the pulsating of the exhaust cycle in unison with the engine. As RPM increases, so will the occurence of the audible noise. If you accelerate heavily followed by closing the throttle, more than likely the noise will reduce or disappear. This is the sign of an exhaust leak.

    To rectify you can either:

    1. Visually inspect the exhaust system for signs of leakage and rectify with either the applicable gasket or sealant and/or by correctly torquing the bolts to their specific requirement.
    2. With the car running, pinpoint the source of exhaust leakage by putting your hand close to each join in your exhaust system from header back and feeling for any escaping exhaust gas. Listening to where the noise is most noticable will aid in resolving the source.

My best guess going off your description would be to check the mating surface between the header and the head.

    Hope this helps.

Yeah like mentioned above, its an exhaust leak. Get under the car at night with a torch and see if you can hi light any exhaust smoke.

A torch should bring it up pretty easy, otherwise run your hand near where you think it may be and see if you can feel exhaust pressure blowing against your hand...

Almost 100% sure its a leak based on the extractor change...

Mine did this after blowing out the gasket between the end of the extractors and the front of the exhaust section, then a couple of weeks later it did the same thing to the gasket where the cat bolts up.

could it be my idler pulley just put a screwdriver on the head of the bolt and end to my ear and it sounds rooted??

Ive got a similar ticking type sound coming from the front of my VS, which you can only really hear when driving alongside a wall or road divider etc. Ive also got pacemakers fitted. Ive been all over my cars exhaust system, and Ive also had it back to the exhaust guy who originally fitted the system, and they went all over it and couldnt find any leaks etc , so its got me stuffed what it is.

If your tick is only audible when bouncing back off a wall etc it may be just due to your pacemaker header pipes. With large primary pipes on a v6 say, 1 5/8" and larger (and especially when combined with a cam profile more aggressive than stock) it is common to have valve-train noice amplified and echoed in the primaries. This gives a ticking noice. Exhaust wrapping the first 12" of each primary will solve this as it dampens the noise.
