Default Modding question for a newbie.

Hey I am going to look and hopefully buy an SS commodore 03 model, Manual.

It has an exhaust but im looking to spend 5 grand max on it.

I dont want a supercharger, Id like to get a turbo if I can afford it for 5 grand. Is that possible?? or should i go with the Cam upgrade for $3600???

Im looking on ebay and theres a 4 grand turbo kit there, do i need to add more money to it for it to work once tuned??

I also have not much knowledge about this so any help would be good, thanks

suggest you do a lot of research before going FI on a LS1, they are not a bad thing if done right, but if done wrong you will no about and be spending much more money on it in the future. If you have such a strict budget then maybe you should think about doing mods that wont put the engine at to much risk.

Also you are going to want to look at things like tuning, otr, exhaust, diff gears HD clutch, maybe a rip shift, the price on a turbo kit certainly will not the only expense.

if it was me and i had 5k to throw at a SS
full exhaust, personally i would choose a sureflo 3.5 single with 100cpsi ballistic race cats (about $1400 delivered) 4 into 1 extractors, if your lucky you could find a second hand pair cheap. great sound and really good increases.
OTR and mafless tune 1k-1.5k. I like the VCM OTRs but thats just me, plenty of others out there.
maybe diff gears depending on what kind of driving you do, 3.9s or 4.11s for a manual
should leave you with a few dollars left over for anything unexpected, and around 230kw at the wheels.
i wouldnt even consider a cam or FI upgrade until i had done these basics
you want more power... keep spending.... its addictive though

If I were you I would probly not be looking at forced induction with 5 grand. A lot more extras and things to factor in than just the kit. Since you already have the exhaust I would recommend a cam change, Otr and tune to suit. That will probly be your budget done, factor in a clutch later on if it's a manual, or a stally to really benefit from the cam if it's an auto. Hope that helps mate
