    I'm here!

Not sure what you want my help with, the spool in number 2 will be fine. Most Transmission and gearbox places sell them, and i think someone even said they got one from sprints one time.

Please before you go out having fun, learn to drive with a spool, as the charicteristics of your car will change. Benifit is though, once you learn it, it'll do the same thing EVERY time, no matter what.

Just so the other people in the thread know, i use a spool on my daily and have for years, and highly recommend it.

Depends what your comparing it to?

if comparing it to sliced bread, well, there the best thing since sliced bread

but in comparing them to other diffs, its all a matter of opinion really.

I say they give better traction than an open wheels and an LSD, yet LSD lovers will say there better.
Spools are good for predictability, you know what it'll do every time, no matter what. An average priced LSD will do the same, for about 3 clutch drops, then it'll slip again. and lets face it, no-one here has $2000 to buy a bottom of the range KAAZ lsd.

hence why a spool is so popular, only downside is there illegal, even though there safer.

It would be a lot quicker & easier to fit a minispool & reassemble with the shims in the same spot. Fitting a full spool will need new bearings, collapsable spacer, an assortment of shims & a lot more time.

i got a quote from quickshift today $300 install on a vs commodore.

very tempted to do it. only worried about if something breaks.

If i snap a axcel can i still drive the car to get fixed etc?

What else would be possible to break?

i know they skip when turning courners but how tight does the turn have to be and are the virbrations strong?

    Thanks heaps Tim

I have a question for the experience spool users..
How much more of an advantage do you get down the 1/4 mile?

ok heres another question for you minispool owners. will a minispool stop my wheels from spinning as soon as i plant my foot?
im not talking about drag races, i could care less, i just want to know so that when im in a situation i need to get out of really quick, the cars not gonna sit there and just spin.

im asking cause just a minute ago i was in traffic, trying to get through a gap in traffic quickly, so i had to go fast, but i started to go then the wheels just spun like crazy. luckily i got out before a truck got me

I use a Spool for one reason only. Burnouts.
Yes a Spool should stop wheel Spin. Just remember slow down when taking corners, Or you'll wrap ya self around a pole. When you got a Spool the car tends to go straight at High Speeds.
Make sure you change the Axcels in ya car when fitting a Spool Unless you want to be Snapping Axcels when ya Turning. Some people are lucky and they never snap. But i have plenty of mates that have. Billet Axcels are great

    Mini Spool all the way

The car can still be driven with a snapped axle (most times it'll break just after the splines). I drove mine around for a day and a half when i snapped one

Its possible that anything can break, just like a normal diff.

You can daily drive them and make them not 'skip'. Or should i say, 'I' can, not sure about anyone else. If you full lock it, it'll skip, but how often are you going to do a u turn on full lock, when you can just drop the clutch and turn around on the spot.

    What vibrations?

If your car does that, you've obviously got some major suspension issues. I've never had that problem, the car does what i want whenever i want it, high or low speed.

My race car has a hard time turning at slower speeds as it will just push forward (understeer). At a normal speed & correct throttle it wont handle any different from a normal car with an open or LSD.

haha mate! billet axles cost way to much! your looking at about $600plus! i suggestd you look at getting 28 spline axles much thicker than your standard axles! but still cost a fair bit! your looking at about $550 brand new! not much cheaper from wreckers as they are not alot of em around!

also just like to add that mini spool are better than lsd's in my opinion! lsd slip after ya drop the clutch 3 time as said already! mini spools seem to be tough as guts! only downer is ya (MAY) snap axles! and ya go through tires quicker! so if you have a set of 17,18 your best idea is to sell them and buy some ceptors!

by the way my vl has a mini spool wit 3:9 gears! goes a treat!

Whats this loss of tyres from? I have 18s and havn't lost any extra tread. Buy a clue, then learn about a spool before you give useless feedback!

My car doesnt run on the road so I cant comment on the tyre wear from personal experience. However the way a locked diff throws extra force to the outside front wheel & needs a rear wheel to break traction to turn I would of thought that tyre wear would increase. If stealthy has not noticed an increase in wear & he runs one on the street I would tend to believe him.
Mind you looking at the marks hes leaving I dont think he gets much tyre life anyway.

im not sure but i forgot that there are is certain tire out there that is pretty durable with a spool! but in most cases! you'll find that your tires will wear alot quicker! stealthy must be an exception!
