hi all, please help me out with some info, i just got a vt 195i calais and have no clue on 8's, what are some nice cheap bits can iadd to freshen her up a bit eg. good air filter, injectors, oils... also how much work is involved getting to about 260kw.
cheers all
hey heeno. well firstly do you want 260kW at the flywheel, or at the rear wheels? anyway, there are plenty of things you could do, just depends on what budget your on. firstly you could get a cold air intake, a lot of people believe it's ideal to get the cold air intake from a supercharged v6 commodore (i think you can pick one up for about $60 from holden). you could a POD air filter also. some may argue that a POD is a waste, some say they notice a difference. If you were to get a POD, it would be good to have it shielded by the airbox (airbox would need to be modified in order to shield a POD filter). a great thing to do, that may not be "cheap" is to put a set of extractors on, and a nice cat-back exhaust. you could also get a new camshaft and get a custom tune. there's more you can do, and i'm sure the others can guide you a lot better than what i have.
hope this helps, and good luck![]()

cheers man, yea im going for 260 @ the wheels, i've already got the hsv intake on there with a k&n panel filter (only got today) so inductions alright, getting it lowered this weekend and proper extractors and twin 2.5' go on when the tax man gives me back some money so after that i'll have the basics down pat, then im thinking of getting a cam bigger/better injectors and maybe some nice pistons...then chip n tune.
thats really all i want to do for now, how much rwkw do you all think this setup could produce.
try posting in the v8 section, ull get more replys in thereOriginally Posted by heeno

260rwkw will cost you big $$$$, it takes alot of work to get the 304's into this power bracket.Originally Posted by heeno

260rwkw means you have two options, boost or more cubes. You are going to have to strap a s/c on the side or look at a heavily worked 355 stroker to pull those numbers, or both.Originally Posted by heeno

Ok then, 260rwkw might be a bit large, how bout just doing cam, chip, pacy xtractors, injectors, strengthen auto, bigger throttel body and forged pistons
big dittio there. :POriginally Posted by kill -9
Just buy an LS2 crate motor 6k if you look around, then a nice 6 speed 5k if it is upgraded to handle alot power (both new). Then tune, cam and exhaust it and say hello to about 300rwkwOriginally Posted by heeno

thatll cost you a LOT of money to get fitted and running, LS1 would be mich cheaper
dont let these guys dampen your enthusiam, if you wanna work your 304, then do it man...
dont bother with injectors mate..unless you wack on a blower the ones you have will be more than sufficient. also, if you went as far as replacing pistons you may as well up the compression and port and flow match the heads and manifold, along with new lifters, valve springs and roller rockers.Originally Posted by heeno
a 304 will easly get 260kw at the flywheel
30thou oversize trw flattops
sig earson HLM320 cam adv 6deg
gusset around valve stems
a desent set of headers
leave everything else stock (unless you plan to go over 6000RPM)
timing 38deg @3000RPM
