    Default Insurance

Mum went to insure my car 2day and apparently I have 2 many mods, so they wont cover it, all they will do is the car itself which being a vk aint worth much so basically if nething happened 2 my car I wouldn’t get anything for it, apparently with the mods its something deterring young ppl modding cars, so after ringing around, mum got a few quotes and the only places that do it charge tonnes.

Does ne1 else have this problem? who is ur car insured with and are they good?

I need 2 no by 2moro morning coz it runs out 2moro, thanks heaps

just car insurance is the only way to go for us younger drivers... it cost me just under 600 bucks and the car is completely in my name, mods are extractors and exhuast and it already had a tow bar which bumped it up a bit but still reasonable i say. it can be done online too so its simple to get done

I made a thread in the general section... Insurance for young drivers. Give it a read.

Shannons are a no go as they only do full comprehensive insurance, im guessing you're after 3rd pary fire and theft yeah?

SGIC and Just Car insurance are the only 2 that will do it.

most of the time my car is behind locked gates, but i'd get it as soon as i can

and it is just a vk...i no it probably does sound bad but when ive just paid registration and got it serviced, $100 extra isnt that easy 2 come up with

it does have a security system fitted 2 it

Mate, fire and theft is a must!

It more than just if you have your car stolen or burnt or anything... But if you are in an accident that is not your fault, you are covered by insurance with 3rd party fire and theft!

    Definitely worth $100!!!!!!!

I'm confused. If the extra $100 wasn't paid for fire and theft, what insurance is there below that? AFAIK You don't get full comp without the fire and theft component.

Yup, just realised that. Have never been offered just third party before, and seen that JustCar offer it in their online quote.

I think thirdparty property would be more than enough for most people. Basically if the excess is more than the value of the car then it kinda wipes out the equation.

Fire and theft would only cover you in the event your car is stolen or torched. It has no bearing on anyone else who hits you. You have to weigh up what the car is worth and if you could afford to replace it out of your own pocket.

Third party property only covers anyone else or their property that hits you or you hit for damage only.

Third Party Fire and Theft also means if someone hits you as in its not your fault in an accident, you are covered by insurance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had 3rd party fire and theft in my VL, lady ran a stop sign, my VL was written off. I received $3,500 minus the wreck which I chose to keep from my insurane company.

With just property I would have got NOTHING unless the other lady had insurance, which some people do not.

Yup, exactly, you have to weigh up what the amount you will receive if the car is written off though, hence my point. If the car is valued at and worth bugger all, then you get just that back. All this has to be judged on the individuals circumstances. Having said all that, I would never ever be without third party fire and theft as a minimum.

Just a side note: some thrird party property insurance can cover you for a limited amount of damage in a not at fault accident. Best to check with the individual insurance co on the exact details......

im 19 full comp on my vn with mods listed and its only $1200 a year through justcar but u have to pay upfront but if your parents r willing just borrow the money off them and pay them back bit by bit if u dont have the ready cash.

Yeah thats why I went with SGIC. Just Car were cheaper but they wanted an up front payment, SGIC wanted monthly installments which is easier for me via bank deposits.
