    Default Converting V6 to V8

I just want to know the costs, for replacing the VN Buick V6 to the equivilent V8. Brakes don't need to be looked at, but what about Transmission/tailshaft/diff? And does anyone know an estimation to the closest hundred? anyone done this before?

im not to sure bout most of the other stuff... i think the diff centers are the same from v6 to v8 just maybe a different ratio but im not certain, getiing the engine wired up will be pretty expensive, im getting my rb30 2 efi5ltr wired up for 500 from a friend of the family so that is really good ive been told its usually about the 1g mark

    1. buy a crashed 5ltr - $2500 max
    2. transfer all gear from 5ltr into your car - FREE (unless you have to pay for labour..... then about $1500-$2000+)
    3. go do some donuts.

it would be a direct bolt out/bolt in conversion

and you can make some money back by selling your v6 and wrecking the rest of the parts on the stacked car.....

How long is a piece of string?

Do you want an engine that needs a rebuild, want one that has had work done?

Stock and possibly in good nick around $2500-3000 for engine and ecu.

Not a rebuilt, one thats running or so.. Work done would be a bonus, but not required.

Well i sold my 5 ltr. with auto, 185kw(out of a vs ss) 112000 klms. for $4200
Only thing it didn't come with was the radiator.
I was putting in my wb but kids put a stop to that!
I think that price was pretty good, should get them cheaper i would think tho'.

obviously the comp and brakes need changing,
but what about the wiring loom?
what about the engine mounts aswell, do you just remove the v6 mounts
and replace it with v8 mounts?

2 more things im unsure if they would need changing?
the dash cluster? the tacho and speedo might be wrong

and the front springs? maybe v6 front springs
    are not strong enough?

can anyone confirm if any of this needs changing thanks.

    You need the:
    motor/gearbox, ECU and wiring Harness
    V8 K-Frame
    V8 Radiator
You need to put V8 Springs in the front
    Tailshaft
    V8 Tacho and Temp Gauge
You have to alter little things like the Vaccum lines for the Heater Switch and A/c Lines
The V6 Diff is OK as long as you don't thrash it
    Brakes are fine
    Lots of patience !

V6 and v8 diff the same both run 3.08 ratio 28 spline 4 pinion diff, the only difference is that SOME have LSD and some do not, depending on what was ordered from factory.
As previously said best thing is to buy a donor car that is complete and take everything you need off it, it is also usually the cheapest option.

depends how low the ride is, if u wanted it lower, leave the V6 springs in it, will sit sweet, haha but thats the least of the worries

ephect the v8 spings i think are stiffer than the v6 ones... so squashy v6 ones would be dangerous and floaty

walesy, its the same as putting 2 bags of concrete in the boot of a car, it doesnt really ride any differently (ok apart from most of the weight transfer to the back of the car) it just sits lower.. makes sense?

same thing with the front, all depends on what is under the front gaurds already.. king superlows are a strong spring, just sits lower not floaty at all.. like having a 2 fat wogs in the front of the car.. same.. just sits lower.. (im wog btw)

i dont know if they're a stiffer spring or same amount of coils just spread out a lil more, so with the weight it would sit the same height for instance like the v6 springs.. alot of guys are doin it, with great results
