I got a VXII 5spd S-Pack and i am toying with the idea of charging it...
Roughly 200rwkw.
Just wondering if the gearbox will handle this?
I drive the car pretty hard..
I also plan on putting a LSD 3.7 in and an exedy HD clutch to strengthen the driveline abit...
i hear that are pretty crap but thats just what i hear i never owned one.
Could be a good time to get a tremec T56![]()
We got rep back, yaaay!
I would be intrested to know this too, I want to convert my vt 5ltr calais to manual and as I understand it the getrag was the box holden used for this model.
I would like to know how much power it can handle to plan for engine mods after the conversion
50LTRv8
See thats what im thinking...
They put this think behind 5lt VT V8s so it can't be all THAT crap...
And from my understanding the 195i VT 5lt still ran the same box except for a different 1st gear ratio...
I read some where that they ran getrags in the old ATCC tourers, if thats true they should be able to handle 400+HP

Forget Out Running Datsuns
Don't do it! lol
It can handle a pansy 5L, but it couldn't handle the L67 (hence it was only ever released with an auto). The one person I've read of doing a manual conversion broke a stock T5 in all of 3 months, had to do some strengthening to get it happy.
If you're aiming for bigger numbers, you'll have to look at something that can handle a bit more power, especially so if you're looking at charging it (which involves massive torque right from the bottom=bad for gbox).
Driving a CURSED WH V6.
and expensive dual mass flywheels too, replace a clutch, replace the flywheel too
I thought the getrag was made in china? I like the box it feels great and i give mine hell and yet i havent hand any issues, in saying that i would advised a fully Synthetic oil then drive it hard for a week and then replace oil with new Synthetic. Im also looking into a rip shift as the gear stick seems real sloppy when in gear, like its missing a rubber to tighting the gears shift up.
.:Blown VT V6, DAJ37:.
PM BlownVs for exact numbers
But he was running a turbo on his, and with more than 200kw at the rears, held up perfectly fine.
The clutch however, always seemed to play up when Skye was driving, wierd that![]()

Pretty impressive if the gertag held up with 200rwkw!
Yeah, the clutch would be sumfin to upgrade probably...
im gettin slippage atm and thats only running about 170ish at the fly!! lol
I think there is a black VY ute V6 on here that is running 355rwhp through the getrag M35. I'm sure with a decent clutch you won't have too many problems. Maybe look into a short shifter with positive stop to reduce over throw and rooting the syncros.
As for your slippage, I would put that down to crap factory clutch. When you upgrade your clutch you will have to replace the flywheel as well cause the getrag run a dual mass flywheel from factory.
When you see a car that's BLOWN it's refering to the budget.
The box is the standard box used on a series 2 VS V6, so i assume thats the getrag, not the T56. (haha, it was only a 5 speed, so of course it was)
The clutch wasn't standard tho. Like i said, PM BLOWNVS and ask him the specs, cause i only drove it, never worked on it.

We have taken the precaution of informing people there could be an issue but maybe we are being mislead by just the one instance we know about at this time.
Hope that helps

So if you stop dropping the clutch from 5grand it should be ok?

Make sure you got enough oil in the box too. From what I know and have experienced the M35 will use oil. Look after it and keep it serviced and you should be fine.

Would ther ebe any hassles in changing to the t5 from a getrag?

im guess ing just an adapter plate... not even that...
Cause the VS ecotec 5-spd had the t5...
Yeah, i don;t often find myself dropping it from 5G lol!!
Once in a blue moon of the lights i light them up from about 3000rpm
But i regularly drop it into 2nd @ 4500rpm... that would probably kill it...lol
hey there whats up with this thread
Hey mate the VS SI Manual had the T5, the SII has the getrag, just thought i'd clear that up for ya
So are ya gonna charge your VX or what? My VS will be hopefully sometime in '08, i reckon looking into whats involved with dropping in a T56 would be worthwhile. I saw one on ebay a week or so ago for 2K, came with some extras and only had 26,500 k's on it. Hopefully they wont be too hard to swap over!
Cheers
what supercharger are ya going for?
