holden engines -info needed pls

as i am new tothe car scene i am in need of info about the various holden engines.

i have the drift about the vs/vr/
are HSV enhanced cars with a 5.7 v8 engine?
SS-5.0 v8
vt 3800 supercharged./naturally aspirated
what are ls1/ls2
what a gen 3 engines and whatever else?

would the v6 s/c have better performance than the vt ss ?
can any1 post up a link to enlighten me or post up some answers pls./also the various gearbox combos and their performance/quality.

if a vt s/c engine had say fer example 300k.would it be better to get some high performance internals -forged pistons/rods/rockers/cams etc than get a low km(150k)ss of the same genre?
