cheers for ur replies guys, yeah thats definetely true it would be illegal. i think tho if you run the valve closed, ur exhaust would be through the normal system and then legal??? ive seen the vids on youtube, like the blue vt clubby, but ive tried searching for suppliers in aus with not much luck. seems only rocket industries supplies the qtp ones. awesome idea tho. do you guys know of any like diy or home jobs? maybe one offs?

these come standard on the latest corvettes, wired into the PCM so they open at full noisei might consider one later on for strip/track work for a laugh but just the bolt on/off style.

well would be a good idea, they've noted some decent gains with such a cheap mod especially on boosted engines. they reckon 30hp at the wheels on a wrx. not sure bout our humble commo's tho, since this product is american![]()

They work by combining an exhaust system to retain back pressure giving you your bottom end, then once the revs increase you need less back pressure to achieve constant acceleration. This product removes the back pressure of the exhaust system once you get to a certain rev. It is illegal to even have one fitted on a road car unless it is factory. I'm not even sure that the Corvette that has these is allowed to be imported. A private import maybe, but it won't be something that is readily available.
yeah thats a good way to put it. doubt they would allow it on imports if they're not gonna allow it on our cars. wonder what the consequences would be of having such a mod; im guessing it'll start with a canary and then some fines? if anyones interested i found it on ebay Electric,Exhaust,Valve,Cutouts,Race,Valve,Performa nce - eBay Other Exhausts, Exhausts, Car Parts, Accessories, Cars, Bikes, Boats. I got caught with a VK Brock Director that was too loud in the early 90's. Back then the car was canaried and I got an epa note to get the car certified to be legal. It wasn't difficult but the cert was quite expensive from memory. I'm sure if a policeman saw that contraption he would take a dim view of it and then go looking for other ways to make your life hard.
Reaper
=[ no fun haha. not worth the risk it seems. my mate was running his beaten up patrol without an exhaust at all was so loud he got pulled over for speeding and that was it. i guess its the luck of the draw whether u get a policeman who's out to get you or one who's more understanding. maybe theres a way of making it stealth? in the sense that if a policeman looked under the car he couldnt see it and u could just close the port so the exhaust runs legally. just a thought lol but most likely not worth the time and effort. what do you guys reckon? so tempting tho when u watch something like this: YouTube - exhaust cutouts

At the rear mufflers, yes. They change the way the mufflers run depending on the revs. It's a bit different to running a cutout in front of the cats.
how do we find out if they're legal for sure? cos if they are ill be over the moon and back again lol.
1991_Vn2nV - ive got no idea. if they do then that could be an argument allowing us to run them?
Not_An_Abba_Fan - have you had any issues with yours with policemen?
Dan355 - im stoked to hear they're legal but what makes you so sure?? i mean that with no insults or attacks intended lol.

I don't have one. They are illegal in WA.
It is Dan355 that has them.
All good mate. Iv been through regency (Vehicle inspection). If there flanged and dont hang any lower than 100mm off the ground then theres no problem. I assume its the same for other states? It doenst break any ADR's, its basically abit of extra pipe thats flanged, no gas loss. So whats the problem? If you had them before the cats then id understand if they had a problem with them.
Same principle as a cat when running dedicated LPG. Just because the cats are not needed with LPG, you still have to have them fitted because potentially you can still run the car on petrol. With the cutouts, even though they are flanged, you can still flick a switch making the car exceed legal noise levels.
