auto gearbox

heys guys just wantin to know a couple of things about the auto boxes in the vt ecotec.
Next time i take hollidays from work i plan on pulling it out and getting a shift kit installed and also a manual valve body, just wondering if any1 could clarify how they work i think i know basically how but just not sure.
And would 1 of these boxes bolt up to a gen 3 as i want to put 1 in it later (dont say just buy a gen 3 ive heard it all and doesnt suit wat i want to do)
And just another quick question while i have it out if i chose to put a stall converter on could it swap over to the gen 3 or is it a totally different size due to different flywheel.
