Potential VX Water Pump problem

About 6-9 months ago i started to get a slight whistling sound whenever I was accellerating in my VX executive, which would die off as I changed gears but increase again as i accellerated. It was a minor sound at the time.

Now, the sound has increased dramatically. The whistling sound is more prevalent, and the sound rises and falls pretty much three times through each gear change. As well as that there is a slight grinding sound as the car idles coming from one of the lower pulleys.

The performance and temperature have not been affected at all. But obviously I'd like to have this problem canned ASAP. A mate and myself both suspect the water pump, but if anyone could help with a diagnosis, it'd be greatly appreciated.

My dads car (VT SS series2) is doing the same thing, mechanic thinks its the water pump. im currently looking up pricess now
