Hi every one i fitted a mini spool to my car last night and now im getting a bad clunking under very hard aceleration or wheel spin, the same sort of feeling you get from doing a burnout in reverse. I marked the screw adjusters before removal. Just wondering if any one has had this issue before.
the same sort of feeling you get from doing a burnout in reverse
Do you mean axle tramp? :S get a mate to look @ your wheels when you take off hard/wheelspin and see if they're bouncin' up and down like a mad man...
i dont think its that because if i nail it from 40k it does it, but il get my mate to watch 2mrw night
cracked diff cradle? or is that only a problem on earlier IRS commodores?

it might also be u havent set the axles in the right position or not tightened everything up tight enough dunno just a thought
Backlash?.....
Shut up when I'm talkin' to you, you hear me, answer me!
Ive checked every thing is tight. If the backlash is to tight could that cause this, it feels slightly tighter than a normal diff i know its deffinatly not too loose. Also are 3.08 gears timed, or does the crown and pinioin line up in any location
in an ideal world you should have marked the gears so that they line up on the same teeth again. however not doing this won't result in a clunk, maybe some gear noise but not a clunk. a clunk indicates something is either loose or moving when under load.
minispools are natoriously hard on suspension bushes, if you have any that were in poor condition with the standard diff, fitting the minispool will show em up straight away. you mentioned it did a simmilar clunk when doing reverse burnoutsi'd suggest the problem was there before however with the standard diff it wasn't creating enough load under "normal" conditions to cause the noise
