    Default Fog Lights for VYs

    Hi guys,

I just bought myself a second hand VY Spac and im wanting to get some fog lights installed. The cars due for a service soon and i was gonna take it to Holden and get em installed there, any idea on how much that'll cost?
    OR
Should i just buy some fog lights for dirt cheap off ebay and get a mate to install em? And are those generic fog lights just cheap crap or are they ok?

This thread over here should be a good start VY SS Fog Lights

If you have the wiring already there and the relay which I would imagine you do then it's a piece of cake.

Get yourself a pair of genuine Holden VX or VY SS foglights (they are 100% exactly the same) cause you won't have to modify anything. Bolt them into the holes that are already in your S Pak by plucking out the black caps and replace with foglights.

Wiring is definitely already on your car so jack the front up to find the wire loom behind the bumper on either side, they may be covered with black electrical wire from factory so just untape them and click'm into the fog light wire. Thats right, just click'm in - no cutting required.

In the engine bay you have a fuse and relay cover which you need to add a relay into one of the empty relay ports (not sure which one exactly as it's been a while since i did my misses car).

Last thing is to get yourself a VY foglight switch which is incorporated into the headlight switch for VY and VZ. To turn the foglights on you pull the dial out in parker and headlight modes.

The hardest part of doing this would be changing over the headlight switch.

I wouldn't recommend the aftermarket foglights.

A good guide to go by to know if your car has got the wiring loom already installed for foglights without getting dirty looking for the loom is if your car is factory fitted with cruise control or electric windows or auto climate control as those vehicles are normally fitted with a level 2 or level 3 wiring loom. As an example there are some Executives which have the level 2 wiring loom because the original owner may have ordered electric windows or cruise control. To find out exactly what level wiring loom you have got you need to check your BCM (body control module) which will be tagged to say exactly what it is.

This goes for VR VS VT VX VY VZ and more than likely VP and VN also. VR and VS foglight wiring looms are usually rolled up under the radiator support on either side of the radiator. VT VX VY VZ have a metal clip on the wiring loom that holds the loom on either the front of the rail on either side or it will be on the bumper reinforcement otherwise known as the reo on either side.

There are 2 types of headlight switches for the VY and VZ. One has the foglight switch that you pull out to turn on the foggies and the other one doesn't have the switch to pull out which you must have in your S Pak. Ask Holden for the SS switch as the Calais, Berlina, Caprice and Statesman fog light switches might have extra dimming functions that could make the switch not work in your car.

I bought aftermarket ones from ebay, cost me $100 plus i had to buy the switch (part no. 92113753) $37 (i think) and a relay $7 (don't know part no. just ask for one, they're all generic) So all up cost me less than $150. I installed myself probably a good 2 hours work with modifying the bracket that came with them. Holden quoted me $360 for geniune ones (not fitted) so i was happy with 2 hours work and saving $200
