Im just after some advice, I'm taking my V8 VE to the drag strip to race against a friend. He will be driving a 1989 Skyline GTR and I want to make sure I'll win. Should be easy anyway since my car is almost 20 years newer and an extra 2 cyls and an extra couple of litres. Any tips though?
Pray its not a well looked after Gtr....lol
If its been looked after your in trouble unless you have a GTS, then you should be able to keep up....
All this if we are talking stock for stock...
You have 110kw more and about the same in extra torque stock for stock (I think) but you also have alot more weight.
Which will bring us to the fact the r32 GTR is a 4wd.
Basically your biggest advantage is you have power on tap and he has power once the turbo has his boost up... so you advantage is in the take off.
But... because your rwd and he can get power to all 4 wheels.... he can get more power to the ground without loosing grip.
Maybe your the better driver and the gtr has had a few horse escape from under the bonnet over the years...
But my money would be on the gtr...
Thats my opinion anyway.

Those things can crack high 12sec quarter miles with only a small boost increase and a decent exhaust. I'd be honestly surprised if after almost 20 years the car is still in complete neutered factory form. If it IS completely factory, you're in for a good run. If it's been modified at all, you're up **** creek![]()

Put a few Electric Superchargers in your VE, you'll blow his ****en doors off
Well drag and find out ;P
Tell us the result
gtr ftw !!!!!
Get a mail order tune from someone asap! the VE's fly then, that should be enough to do the job on a crusty skyline (most of them aren't as fast as everyone thinks) there's a few quick ones but the most of them are pretty slow
GTR has my vote.
I have a tip...
don't expect to win
although, I have a feeling your friends car isn't even a GTR
wheres the bookie...
Ill put my dollarz on tha gtr
That's my theory too. The amount of "GTR's" that aren't GTR's is about 90% in Australia, real ones are extreme rare. It takes almost no effort at all to make a VE run 13 flat and any car that runs a 13 flat is up with a chance against anything that's near stock

Well what a waste of money, I spent so much on this SS VE thinking it would be powerful and fast. We raced last night and he absolutely smashed me, he ran a low 12. I even got beaten by a little 2L silvia thing with just RWD that ran low 13. 20 years of techonology and they cant even make a damn v8 that will beat a 4 cyl with a few bolt on mods.![]()

Mate... don't think of it that after 20 years of technology they aren't making a car that can beat an old jap 4cyl.
Your car... if a family sedan mate... the GTR is a sports car... they are not made for the same thing...
The thing about jap cars is that with very little effort they can go very quick plus I'm pretty sure they have higher gearing in the diff that what an stock SS has quick gets them going quicker.
On that note with a few basic mods to your VE SS you would be giving them a run. Is your SS stock?
As i said... your car is a family sedan... not designed for racing. Against probably one of the best sports cars of its day.
Side note.
What did you run? are you manual or auto?
So you got beaten by a modified R32 in your stock SS? What else do you expect? Drag a stocker and I reckon you'd have a chance.
