... why on earth would you want to do that for? Buying a ute would be cheaper...

What to explain the reasoning behind this?

I have a photo of a VN wagon made into a ute somewhere - it was on Ebay last year.

    I'll have a look.

    Found it

I take it he means trayback tonner which didn't come out till vy. Im not sure how you do about doing it but i worked with a bloke that had his vs wagon converted to a trayback with 1 1/4 tonne payload

You will have to use a HQ or similar rear end. I'm not sure that a VY spec one would fit, or be readily avaliable.

A bloke at work did his vr berlina sedan into a tray back tonner. They basically cut it off behind the front seats, so wagon or sedan for his wouldnt have mattered as they welded their own chasis on the back for the tray. Looks sweet to with a vx front end and its painted a real brilliant white colour and black stips taken off the doors.

Ah ok, I see... fiar enough

    Ok.... now I have a question then...lol

Wouldn't it be easier to start with a ute and strengthen the required components?

1 Tonner is the ones with a flat tray with dropsides.

Ute is generally just a normal ute with a tub.

Have seen a VS One tonner a few times. Looked alright.

And yeah, wagons/sedans are generally a lot cheaper than the utes.

A lot of utes still go for around 5 grand, wheras there are a lot of Sedans for $1000 or less.

there are a couple of companies around that specialize in making commodore tonner utes, unless you want to do the work yourself, id look them up, maybe evento get some pointers and info from them.
